Go look in the downloads page at the old old spring released years before the first mention of supreme commander.
Supreme Commander seems to be what made Spring developers re-add it though, so that's just supporting the claim that the zoom levels were revolutionary :)

They didnt 're-add' it, rather they removed a large zoom limit that prevented you doing it on the bigger maps.

And indeed the quickzoom seems to be a spring only feature, that I've yet to find in the supcom demo.

Ehr? The old Spring's zoom was nothing compared to Supreme Commander if you're talking about that. The new thing is no limits, and the old Spring was pretty damn limiting.

Well the demo wasn't that great for me - I cancelled my pre-ordered copy of supcom after playing for an hour or so.

My main issue is the performance on my PC (3.5GHz P4, 1Gb, X800XL), which is just not smooth enough for me, even on lowest detail! The game is almost always below 30fps, dropping to single figures during big fights.

Spring offers me better graphics (looks lots better than supcom does on lowest detail) and a better gameplay experience tbh. Maybe in a couple of years time when 8800s are old-hat I might get one and give supcom another go :)

Well the full release came out today in Europe. So who got a copy, who didn't and are going to get one? I'm going to wait a bit, no real reason why.

I'd have bought it immediately hadn't I played the beta. Now I'm waiting for a price drop if I'll get it at all.

It comes with a free copy of Dawn of War for some reason...

where from?

I get it on monday from amazon (maybe a little later), and I paid about £20 for it, which is usually how much (PC)games sell for after their initial price drop hdre anyway.

look again!

Every retail box has a sticker "includes free full version of Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War".

THQ did that with Company of Heroes as well. Seems like demand failed meet supply for that game.

Which one? Dawn of war or Supcom. I would find it difficult to say Supcom is poor no matter what gameplay grudges some of us have against it. :?

supcom. I got the new DoW too, which was okay. but no, supcom is poor. is pangs of somthing that could have owned but was balanced and designed by idiots.

AF, the reason I was SURPRISED that the game played so bad on my PC was that believe it or not my PC is the "recommended" spec.
3.0 GHz Intel or equivalent AMD processor or better
1 GB RAM or better
ATI X800 XL, ATI X1300, or greater; nVidia GeForce 6800 or greater

by AF
Isnt that the minimum spec? You usually times the minimum spec by 1.5 to get the true minimum spec.

I appreciate that the minimum spec is never any good for any game, but the recommended is normally fine (at least for playing on low detail). The readme file says this:
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
Microsoft® Windows® XP Service Pack 2, Vista
1.8 GHz processor
512 MB RAM
8 GB available hard drive space
128 MB video RAM or greater, with DirectX 9 Vertex Shader / Pixel Shader 2.0 support (Nvidia 6x00 or better)
Sound card, speakers or headphones
Broadband internet connection (DSL/Cable).

RECOMMENDED SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
3.0 GHz Intel or equivalent AMD processor or better
1 GB RAM or better
8 GB available hard drive space
256 MB video RAM, with DirectX 9 Vertex Shader / Pixel Shader 2.0 support (Nvidia 6800 or better)
Internet connection with Cable/DSL speeds

Note: recommended specifications provide optimal experience for single player and up to 4 player/medium size map multiplayer

AFAIK CoH was only included as a demo with Dark Crusade, SupCom gets the full version of DoW.

It's way too laggy... does anyone know how to get a mini-map on the screen? without dual screen? I use the mini map so much, and it's inconvenient to have to scroll out
