Would replay catchup be faster if it wasn't rendering the game at the same time?

If so, perhaps that could be an option? That might make rejoining or spectating long games much more feasible.
The difference would be small to ~none, because during catch up only very few draw frames happen, and most of the time is already spent on sim.
Yeah, that's about what I figured. Was worth asking.
