Really? O_o
Yep, that's what I saw in some movie recommendations that went along with this one when I looked it up.

Its not just that imo... I asked myself many times what we actually need to live and be happy? Society? Technology? Luxury? None of that. For all I care I'd grab the people I love, few close friends, my guitar move to a warm big island in the ocean and live a happy life.
I think that I could live happily on an island if I had to, but I really do like the technology.

Stupid backwards-ass penguin behaviour. I tried to make friends with one once and the little bastard pecked me.
Funny penguin joke video:

Would be all well and good until you get a parasite, food shortage, water shortage or raided by pirates who rape your women and kill you taking all your food and leaving the women to starve to death if they don't take them as slaves.

How about injury?tooth acke?
Another thing is that youd get bored as hell...
After you set up shelter and water supply and learn to hunt and gather food efficiently youll have so much time you'll go nuts...
Thinking about all the things you could be doing if you were living in a civilized area...

The only solution would be if the island has weed growing on it ^^
Weed plus making alcohol from fruit would solve all the aforementioned problems.

Youd still become toothless and die early though..

Danger and dealing with health issues is problem. You hear about similar crime related stories all the time.

It's still good to explore the environment anyway even if videos can romanticize the idea:

If you like the movie Into the Wild, you would probably also like Invictus if you haven't watched it, even if you aren't into sports movies. Below the poem that the title of the movie was derived from and I read the biography about Nelson Mandela too. It helps with background information that is left out in the movie even though the movie seems like it does a pretty good job of portraying him.

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

-William Ernest Henley

This movie is another dramatic and inspirational movie about personal growth and the poem is fitting.

How does invictus resemble into the wild??
Absolutely different movies...
Also if you want "sports drama" movies watch "remember the titans".
My friend loves sports movies and he made me watch it(my excuse).

Why do you guys have to ruin it for me? I HATE YOU ALL!

No, but seriously, its not about what would actually happen and whether I'd be able to provide for myself etc. I was just wondering what you actually need to be happy and a lot of the stuff that surrounds us is not a necessity. Enjoy the little things, things you tend to ignore.

You should read Walden if you find living in the wilds a romantic notion..

I think so to.

I read some Transcendentalist literature in high school because it was required of my English class. I don't remember it very well, but remember thinking that it was alright even though a little too romanticized.

watched a two-parter on friday...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1259014/

"mesrine : killer instinct" and "mesrine: public enemy #1" with vincent cassel. freaking awesome... at the start, hes a soldier in the 1960s coming back from algiers, and seems to be so effected by what he's seen that he's unable to re-enter regular society, and instead turns to crime

anyways... its based on the real events of the life of jacques mesrine;
- murdered over 40 people
- 4 escapes from custody
- a nice holiday in canada
- involvement with the FLQ and the PLO
- dude is totally out of his melon

one of those things where if it wasn't based on reality, i would be completely unable to accept mesrines actions... so ridiculous and unbelieveable... wombat and basic would love this one methinks

also i watched "happy go lucky" with my gf, first time in a long time i was able to laugh a lot with a comedy movie sans fart jokes. good one to watch if you've a date.

also a mike judge movie "extract" with jason bateman... very enjoyable http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi4097835801/ heres a trailer; somehow missed this one when it came out originally

So I finished watching into the wild, great movie, spoilers ahead.

The journey itself was awesome, the ending just painted stupidity as heroism, which was lame. By ending I mean the choice to commit overly complex suicide in alaska, guy had a death wish from the start and this was the escalation. :/

I dont think that was his motivation. I think he was looking for true freedom which can not really be achieved within our society

Spoilers:
But he was not prepared enough to face the brutality of life in the wilderness. He failed. But I symphatize with the try. Btw the beers werent the cause of his death according to an autopsy IRL

Any of you guys watched Hachiko? You should watch it especially if you're a dog-lover. I'm a full-grown man but I cried buckets.
