the heat death by free energy could be avoided if you transform it all into kinetic energy, like spinning the moon really fast until it explodes.

Does the thought experiment allow for two inventions?
1)free energy device
2)point of view gun from the hitch-hikers guide

Or does it has to be something already invented? in that case:

But knives are cool! Legend has it that cowboys use them as a tool and to shave.

I've heard you mention "legend" too much recently. I suggest you stop if you know what's good for you.

It goes along with having to study a lot of history.

Don't patent it, release it into the Public Domain, watch what happens :) After all, with your magical "close-to-free" energy device and a few extra add-ons you almost have the makings of a Cornucopia Machine.

I would invent EMP-grenades that fit into your pocket and are so cheap, everyone has a few with him/her.

To hell with all this "free energy devices"! To hell with all this technology! See a group of kiddies listening to their shitty mobile-phone music in the bus? Toss a EMP grenade and you save the day for everyone!

Good idea, but I'd throw em at the right out-of-the-terminator-movies darpa stuff. Good luck, most of the stuff you need is in your television set (or a couple of em). :-)

Also, a pill to make people not be stupid... aside from cyanide of course.
This, but i m more interested in augmented reality googles- that way, the unrealistic goal of heaving all of humanity out of poverty into industrialized societys could get lost, because people who have every virtuell need, can forget about a lot of real world desires (beside clothing, shelter, food, medicals, that is), and what is even more amazing, even the lowest hut could contribute to humanitys knowledge base. Its as utopian as reality could get.
