Potential copyright infringement with TA Spring M&S

Post by Targ Collective »

http://www.taspring.com/

Let's hope they don't sue. Google lists us above them, which may cost them sales.

Technically this is called Spring, and Spring has a mod called TA. But if there was a company called Spring that wanted to sue, we couldnt really stop them.

In this case it could be a trademark dispute not copyright infringement...
Trademarks, Copyright and Patents are different things.

I don't know a lot about international law but here in the Netherlands this won't be a problem as we are operating in a different sector. (Games v/s Management Services)
And other than that Maelstorm is right to.

TA is a shortening for total anihilation... we may throw the term around alot and use it in the URL, but it isn't the official name of the game. You can't trademark a word against use as an abbreviation.

Anyway, I fixed the domain name thing some time ago by registering http://www.springrts.com
It redirects to http://taspring.clan-sy.com/

hmmm, I've been tryign to get spring.darkstars.co.uk to work in the same way google.darkstars.co.uk and http://www.darkstars.co.uk work to no avail. Fnordia has a page with just the word tmp that is shown whenever anyone directly accesses his server,

http://spring.darkstars.co.uk
http://fnord.clan-sy.com

Dammnit, I need spring.darkstars.co.uk working like spring.clan-sy so I can circumnavigate my schools filtering. I've got an A name record for spring.darkstars and a cname for taspring.darkstars, and both work the same way.......

There's also many other taspring domains such as taspring.co.uk

Overrall the engines name itself cannot be trademarked if I'm correct, it's a word, and would come udner the same rules as trademarking 'winter', or 'the' or 'hello'

see that's a really awful example that proves that the american copyright/trademark system is broken on a fundamental level; however in the rest of the known world lindos was allowed to keep it's name, but changed to linspire anyway because of there american market.

http://www.bypassit.be This is a good proxy. It has a lot of URLs as well. My school just blocked one of them today

Antitrack.com is another example of that.

If I use such a proxy site, then people will look and copy and then the lower 6th will get hold of the urla dn sue ti to play games and all fo a sudden everybody si usign ti so ti gets banned. Just like meebo.com got banned so nwo I have to make do with using gmail to pass on messages in school.

With darkstars.co.uk usign the other method I have full control, if soemone else uses the link I cna change it so it doesnt get blocked and if it does get blocked I cant change it to something else anyways.

It's a different sector. (TM issue)

TAspring has been in use by the SY's for longer AFAIK. (TM issue)

Nobody with a site that cheap is gonna be suing anybody else. (random legal issue)
