Running Spring without graphics
Is it possible to run Spring without graphics (just saving a replay) so I don't lag the players in a game? I can watch the replay on my own time since I'm spectating.
Re: Running Spring without graphics
you can use lowest graphic settings, resize your window and disable sound. this should give a very considerable speed boost. if your cpu still can't handle the game, no dice.

run minimized => no graphics
Re: Running Spring without graphics
What is the min resolution? And is it possible to switch to min settings in the middle of a game?imbaczek wrote:you can use lowest graphic settings, resize your window and disable sound. this should give a very considerable speed boost. if your cpu still can't handle the game, no dice.
EDIT: I just got kicked from a game because I was lagging. I was able to get 120 FPS at the start of a test DSD game just by lowering my resolution to 128x80 pixels (without changing other settings). Almost none of the text is readable, but I can see the map and the units (I would be able to watch a real game this way without getting bored). Is there a way to change my fullscreen resolution in the middle of a game? I can't run in windowed mode at all.

I can't run in windowed mode, so I can't minimize without alt-tabbing (and anyway I couldn't watch that way).Forboding Angel wrote:He didn't stutter...Auswaschbar wrote:run minimized => no graphics

What happens when you try?
Re: Running Spring without graphics
Spring never stops loading.lurker wrote:What happens when you try?
edit: the window is never shown
Re: Running Spring without graphics
Can you use the taskbar to minimize it, then? By never shown.. have you done the trick where you initiate a [move], then tap some arrow keys, then move your mouse (or equivalent for any other window manager you may be using)?
Re: Running Spring without graphics
The only thing Spring shows on the taskbar menu is "Close".lurker wrote:By never shown.. have you done the trick where you initiate a [move], then tap some arrow keys, then move your mouse (or equivalent for any other window manager you may be using)?
Re: Running Spring without graphics
So what's wrong with alt+tab to 'minimize'?
Re: Running Spring without graphics
Really sounds like we should be more worried about the fact that he can't run windowed. How many people start Spring, which defaults to windowed mode, have the same problem he does, and just delete it without trying to troubleshoot?
If a program did that on my computer, I wouldn't bother with it.

Check your infolog for springsettings.cfg, find where that file is, delete it. Spring will work windowed again.eyu100 wrote:Spring never stops loading.lurker wrote:What happens when you try?

Re: Running Spring without graphics
if u enjoy just speccing games then dl the replays from http://replays.adune.nl/ and if theres a certain game u wanna spec but cant cos u lag ppl then just ask one of them to upload it for u
Re: Running Spring without graphics
Why are you saying this? Tell me the exact reason this happens. If you can't, eyu100, do NOT delete, but rename, and upload both copies if that fixes it.CarRepairer wrote:Check your infolog for springsettings.cfg, find where that file is, delete it. Re: Running Spring without graphics
I tried it but it didn't work (Spring still started fullscreen. I haven't actually tried running in windowed mode yet.).lurker wrote:Why are you saying this? Tell me the exact reason this happens. Re: Running Spring without graphics
Set your config to windowed mode, and run spring.exe, you should just get a black screen, then press shift+esc to close it. next time you run it, it should be ok.
That has worked for several people with this exact problem. if it breaks again after a while, just repeat the above.

SDL doesn't catch alt+tab, so spring still pushes everything through the pipeline, it just isn't rendered.lurker wrote:So what's wrong with alt+tab to 'minimize'?
