Hacker trick to take a player's place in a game
This is a favourite of [PYB].
You join a lobby, you ready up, they join and spec. When the game starts up, they do something, your splash screen disappears and they have control of your com in game. At which point they either d-gun an ally or laugh at the fact that they can follow you around and make sure that as long as they're online, you can never play a game of Spring.
I don't know what the back-end for this is, but it's incredibly fucking irritating. Anyone knowledgable know how this is being done, or better yet, how to stop it/fix it?

Upload replays or didn't happen. Also battleroom chat log if it's an autohost.

Replays of the games I get kicked out of at the splash screen? Great reading comprehension.Regret wrote:Upload replays or didn't happen.
I don't think Springlobby saves these, so I'll copy paste the next time it happens. It won't prove shit though, since the hacker controls the com that has your name on it, and can issue commands to the bot using that name. It's functionally equivalent to a griefer griefing in game and going 'no no it's not me' out of game.Regret wrote:Also battleroom chat log if it's an autohost.
I'm not the only one they do this to, I'm pretty sure some of the PiRO and rzbx have had it done.

If you really got kicked, there is one.saltwood wrote:Replays of the games I get kicked out of at the splash screen? Great reading comprehension.Regret wrote:Upload replays or didn't happen.
Re: Hacker trick to take a player's place in a game
I'm not being !kicked when the game starts, the splash screen disappears after about three seconds and never finishes loading. There is no replay saved into the demo folder.Auswaschbar wrote:If you really got kicked, there is one.saltwood wrote:Replays of the games I get kicked out of at the splash screen? You did not say you didn't get into the game or that you got kicked.saltwood wrote:Replays of the games I get kicked out of at the splash screen? Great reading comprehension.

I can read just fine. You did not say that you didn't get into the game, splash screen disappearing can mean the game started, which would explain how you knew they took control of your comm. Take a chill pill and stop raging.saltwood wrote:Regret wrote:You did not say you didn't get into the game or that you got kicked.saltwood wrote:Replays of the games I get kicked out of at the splash screen? I'm raging because I'm being griefed. When they decide to piss you off, you'll rage too, and if people tell you to provide things that literally don't exist or it didn't happen, I'll take a bet that you'll be less chill than I am.Regret wrote: I can read just fine. Re: Hacker trick to take a player's place in a game
how did you find out they can controll your commander?
maybe you just crashed loading and they let a spec take your spot ingame.
ask someone who stayed ingame for the replay.
when you go back to the battleroom, are they still specs?

And you want us to ban whole PYB clan just because you said so?saltwood wrote:I'm raging because I'm being griefed. Re: Hacker trick to take a player's place in a game
sounds like either you're taking so long to load that they have a spec take your place OR someone is having fun with /godmode.
Re: Hacker trick to take a player's place in a game
Is this done in Autohost games or hosted by a [PYB] nub?
Re: Hacker trick to take a player's place in a game
Because I can see the autohost reporting someone with my name issuing a forcestart in game, and when I've seen it done to other people, the guy is complaining in the lobby that his game didn't load while a com with his name on it is flying around dgunning bases.knorke wrote:how did you find out they can controll your commander?
Not within ten seconds of the lobby reporting that the game is launched. Or when I've been ingame watching this happen to other people.knorke wrote: maybe you just crashed loading and they let a spec take your spot ingame.
I'm asking, but until it happens to them, most people won't care.knorke wrote: ask someone who stayed ingame for the replay.
Still specs.knorke wrote: when you go back to the battleroom, are they still specs?
Hmm, what do I want?Auswaschbar wrote: And you want us to ban whole PYB clan just because you said so?
I want to know if anyone knows how a hack is happening, if it can be stopped, or if it can be fixed. It's certainly easier for you to pretend that this thread is a tantrum wherein I demand an entire clan be banned entirely on my say-so because GRAW SALTWOOD RAGE, but that's not what I've posted, that's something you've had to make up.saltwood wrote:I don't know what the back-end for this is, but it's incredibly fucking irritating. Autohost games. It happened today in the first Talus_Wet map played this morning on the RZR server. I'm bugging necron for the replay.JAZCASH wrote: Is this done in Autohost games or hosted by a [PYB] nub?
Re: Hacker trick to take a player's place in a game
- edit player name in script.txt
- drag to spring.exe
- hope you connect before the real player
is it that simple?

If you manage to do this in < 1 second, then yesmomfreeek wrote:- edit player name in script.txt

Re: Hacker trick to take a player's place in a game
easy enough to prepare most of that and get it down to a keypress
lobby server shoulod hand out uids and players shoould connect with that.. i guess that would mean changes to lobby server, lobby clients and game :/
btw: should admin edit these posts.. if security is that lacking then perhaps obscurity is a good idea
