Spring Lobby can't connect to server

When I try to use the Spring Lobby to play a multiplayer game, it does the following:

I get a dialog saying:
Connection Failure
A connection couldn't be established with the server. Would you like to try again with the same server? No to switch to next server in the list.
Yes No Cancel

If I say Yes or No, it just keeps happening. Cancel obviously fails the multiplayer attempt, and gives the following further windows:

Server Message
No update available. Please download the latest version of the software from official Spring web site: (it lists the web site).

Then:
Spring Error
Couldn't get your spring versions from any unitsync library.
Online play is currently disabled.

So... I'm not sure what's going on. I had Spring 1944 installed, then used it's uninstaller to remove it, then installed Spring and NOTA. I'm going to check the registry to see if there's anything I can remove there, and try re-installing again. In the meantime, any thoughts on the matter?

I'm having the same problem with latest spring (0.79.1.2). Version before that (0.79.1.1) worked perfectly (well, worked far from perfect actually, but worked).

I'm getting the same problem on Vista.

ok, so the problem goes as following:

1) for some odd reason, SL cannot read the spring version from unitsync
2) since it cannot find a working unitsync, it request an update upon login for spring "0.79.1" because that's what the server reports to use
3) the server acts retarded and kicks you because no such version is registered to be available to download

fixing 1) will fix 3) as well in your case because it will stop requesting an update, but i think a server side fix might be necessary too ( knowing how things goes don't espect it anytime soon )

now, to debug 1) :
- are spring/lobby installed outside program files or not in vista/win7?
- could you give me your unitsync.log? it's located either in the spring folder if the folder is writeable for the current user or c:\users\username\app data\local\spring\unitsync.log

This is a bit difficult, as it is not my computer. It's a *clueless* friends who is missing out on the rest of our friends playing spring. I was at his houuse to install it yesterday, so the rest of what has to be done has to be done over the phone. If I remember the path for spring it is the following: C:/Users/Karen/Spring

As I was about to send you the unitsync.log I opened it and W0000t?

The solution:

- uninstall spring using the uninst.exe in spring dir
- delete the spring folder
- dive into "Documents and Setting\all users" and "Documents and Setting\<your user>" and thoroughly delete everything spring-related, which might be at a times hard to recognize. (took me 15 minutes)
- never, never play stupid games again! (kidding, once you are in you can't quit)
- install, configure, play

EDIT:
As we, the users, become more experienced with springs' bugs and strangeness, it develops new, original ways to still confuse and annoy us. Now, SpringLobby is a giant leap in this direction, because such a buggy program one rarely sees. Yay.
