It must be dependant on how you have cookies set up in your browser and on some peoples machines, how their internet is setup and what browser.

No... I'm pretty sure it's random... I went away for 5 days without Internet... came back, all the new stuff was unread... next day I started reading stuff... halfway through the day suddenly everything is all marked as unread... including new posts from that morning... I've had it happen on multiple computers (no assigned stations at work) with IE and Firefox where it just randomly marks everything as read... it's an account, server side setting tied to your login so I doubt it's a cookie issue...

It works fine for me. The timeout time seems to be about five minutes of inactivity.

You must have shutdown the browser and opened it up back again.

The info on what's new seems to be stored in the browser after connecting to PHPbb server (probably cookies that last that browser session) and the server marks all of those as already read. So, if you shutdown the browser, you loose the info on what's new and in the server they will be marked as already read.

I've done things like not shuting down the PC from one day to the next as to not shuting down the browser so i wouldn't loose the info on what's new.

I use Firefox and i think Konqueror and Mozilla bahave similarly. Other browsers may handle the cookies diferently.

I get the same thing, but maybe I'm a forum noob or there's a bug.

I come to forums and see that for example general and bugs have unread posts.

I go to general forum and view a thread.

When I go back to the main board and then to the bugs forum - all the new posts are marked as viewed. So I kinda have to look at the dates posted to see what was new.

5 minutes is too low, I've closed the browser and opened it back up again to fidn new posts are still highlighted, but this is happenign less and less nowadays as if someone is pushign down the timeout and it's annoying. It's a combination of that, browser cookie settings, and a random element.

Granted this si a phpBB problem as darkstars uses punBB which hasnt had any such problems ;s

I have this problem. When ever I close my browser I loose all the unread threads. Very annoying. Dunno if it can be fixed at all, but it REALLY peeves me off. It happens in FIrefox and IE for me.
