beta tasclient: can I turn off spring downloader?

beta tasclient: can I turn off spring downloader?
I've noticed recently the beta builds of tasclient are using springdownloader/cadownloader - is there any way I can turn this off and go back to using jobjob via a minimap click?
Re: beta tasclient: can I turn off spring downloader?
Why would you want to do that? Spring Downloader automatically fetches maps from jobjol and the other map sites.
Re: beta tasclient: can I turn off spring downloader?
It uses more memory and probably more cpu than just opening another browser tab, it seems to be slower than getting the map manually, starting to download a map you don't want when you accidentally join the wrong game is annoying, it uses an extra system tray icon...
There's more than enough reasons to warrant an option. Much more so than the recently added "load unit icons and names when joining" option.

For me there's a few times when it actually hasn't found the map or find's a slow mirror - I always would it easier to goto jobjob in the first place.
And here's a minor one - another way to get people to play CA

Re: beta tasclient: can I turn off spring downloader?
I always close it the moment the lobby opens, stopping it loading would be a nice option.
Re: beta tasclient: can I turn off spring downloader?
Heres my fix: Revert TASClient.
Re: beta tasclient: can I turn off spring downloader?
if you want to stop it, go to \Spring\TASClientUpdateTemp then remove or rename the extention from Springdownloader.exe
Re: beta tasclient: can I turn off spring downloader?
Kaine: thats not very useful once the lobby goes mainstream and people are like me
Hoi: thanks, it doesn't revert to using jobjob but I suppose I can't have everything :/

Re: beta tasclient: can I turn off spring downloader?
if you dont want it, you can disable the p2p, and you can also let lobby tell you what you dont have yet so you dont autodownload unless you want to.
Re: beta tasclient: can I turn off spring downloader?
I turned off the p2p thing off quickly..
Looks like there's an option in the latest beta build that you can turn off springdownloader
Just need the clicky on the minimap thing back!
I don't know if maintainer of the lobby is reading this thread or someone passed something on, but thanks

Since you are so quick to disabled p2p sharing, I assume you already sent your donation to jj to maintain the server you are using?
As for it auto getting maps when you join game - thats not even default settings, you had to enable it manually ZellSF (auto get maps for joined game).
I think there should also be an option to start it only when you need to get new map/mod. (Off/auto start/start on demand)
If it cannot find map - someone forget to register it, easy fix, register it yourself when you get it..
Slow mirrors - yeah in some cases its faster to use torrents because some websites are really slow. And if the file is only one that one slow mirror it can be really slow.
Slowest was jj's home pc mirror - thats now removed.
In the future this problem will be fixed, because there will be only one download method (websites integrated with torrents), however this takes a lot of works, so it will take few months.
Regarding CPU usage, it's total cpu time is 8x lower than tasclient itself with map sharing (for me at this moment).
Memory usage of combined sd + tasclient beta is lower than old(current official) tasclient (due to optimizations Satirik made).

No, it autodownloads by default. As for it auto getting maps when you join game - thats not even default settings, you had to enable it manually ZellSF (auto get maps for joined game).
There's way too much Spring users with free HTTP bandwith which was quickly shown after UF went down, there's no real need for P2P downloads yet and from what I've read from various forum posts the HTTP hosts aren't in a desperate need of money to keep their hosting either...Since you are so quick to disabled p2p sharing, I assume you already sent your donation to jj to maintain the server you are using?
but it stilll would use less memory and cpu without the downloader. So it is a perfectly valid reason for wanting to turn it off.Regarding CPU usage, it's total cpu time is 8x lower than tasclient itself with map sharing (for me at this moment).

If you mean when you join the game - yes - the user clicked on it.ZellSF wrote:No, it autodownloads by default. As for it auto getting maps when you join game - thats not even default settings, you had to enable it manually ZellSF (auto get maps for joined game).
If you mean if map changes after you joined game - its off by default.

Lurk moar. Also, everyone has gone over to JJ's site, hardly anyone uses any of the other sites now.
Anyway, it's silly to turn off P2P unless you have
A) A nazi anti-p2p ISP, in which case get a better ISP; or
B) have uploads counted in your bandwidth and have only a very small bandwidth allowance.
It's not like anything illegal is being shared (excluding TA mods). Plus, it's good to share.

Re: beta tasclient: can I turn off spring downloader?
So jj obviously needs to do more to try to get people to use the other mirrors. The Spring community just has way too many people with free bandwith for money to be a problem.HeavyLancer wrote:viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14409&start=60ZellSF wrote: There's way too much Spring users with free HTTP bandwith which was quickly shown after UF went down, there's no real need for P2P downloads yet and from what I've read from various forum posts the HTTP hosts aren't in a desperate need of money to keep their hosting either...

As mentioned, there's plenty of reasons other than that.Anyway, it's silly to turn off P2P unless you have

It's annoying that there is no option to turn running it on start off. Removing the exe still gives you an error message. For me it's a chat program mostly so I wouldn't need the downloader.
