There's a lot of conflicting info and news coming about the situation in south ossetia/georgia, but from what i've gathered, georgia attacked south ossetia, which has been independant(from georgia) since 1992, propably in the goal of absorbing the area back to georgian control.

But the majority of south-ossetians also have russian citizenship, giving russia the interest of protecting its citizens. the georgians also fired on russian peacekeepers stationed in ossetia, which afaik, sparked russia into joining the fight

I would pay to know what was going in shakasvili's mind when he decided to harass russia ~,~

Russia need only claim georgia attacked peacekeepers, nobody can proove its true or isn't true.

And ossetia isn't independant, well not officially. Its part of georgia, but not under georgian control, not a state but ran like one and not recognized by countries due to the conflict. Its status as an actual state is thus in limbo.

Russia claiming that they're rushing (see what I did there) to Ossetia's aide due to Georgia abusing a seperatist member state is the most hilariously hipocrytical thing I've seen since the last Republican sex scandal. Russia, that makes a hobby of routinely blasting seperatist(terrorist?) Chechnya into oblivion.

Either way, apparently the Israelis are arming the Georgians, and it's all happening around Iran's back door, so things have the potential to get pretty dodgy.
