Re: Need something to buy
Seriously?
RRSPs
Alternately, a motorbike. Or a massive set of screens for my PC. Or one of those wacom Cintiq LCD tablets. Or plane tickets to anywhere.
*assuming you're talking about a few grand since you said a car.
And getting your license isn't a bad idea anyways. It's handy to be able to rent a car for the weekend if you've some plans. It also will mean you've been driving for longer when you finally DO get a car, which will save you a bunch of money on your car insurance (not by switching to Geico)

Moller Skycar? Like hell.

or alternately

I'd love to see the cops try to pull me over in that. As I'm flying 10 feet above the ground on main street at 75 miles an hour, not having to deal with petty things like "traffic lights" and "pedestrians" and "other vehicles".

Re: Need something to buy
...but the $6.3k for the engine
Re: Need something to buy
Compared with the half million for a Moller Skycar?
I'll probably never buy it, but it would be an interesting project. You have to assemble much of it yourself, they estimate about 300 hours of work is involved. It would sure be a sweet ride though... supposed to be able to seat 6 people for hovercraft use, or 4 people... er... 3 people? I forget... for when it's actually flying. And it's convertible, it doesn't always have the wings attached...
I don't know how much boats cost exactly, I'm not really into that kind of thing very much, but I don't think it could cost that much more than the $11,000 or so I'd pay for that.
The helicopter sure is tempting though. I'm trying to figure out what would be required in Ontario in order to fly it. I'm not sure if normal restrictions apply to ultralight aircraft... like always having to have it stored at a certain location or only taking off and landing at certain points. All I know is, it would kick ass to have my own personal helicopter to ride to work every morning - especially when it apparently gets better gas mileage than your average american car.

Re: Need something to buy
If your going to get an aircraft, Id go with an autogyro (aka gyrocopter). They cost around $40k for a kit, or twice that for a pre-built one. Not to mention they're safer than a plane and especially a chopper, and get better gas mileage than a chopper. They can also land nearly vertically, can fly at as slow as about 20mph or less, are extremely quiet, and can take off from a much shorter field than any plane.
Re: Need something to buy
I see your argument and it is valid... but what if I want to take off from my back yard? The one I've got there has no minimum speed for takeoff or anything.

I think you should help fund my trip to japan
Re: Need something to buy
Not legal to do so anyways. There are some nice projects attempting to make a road-worthy and air-worthy vehicle so you can drive your plane to the air-field.Caydr wrote:I see your argument and it is valid... but what if I want to take off from my back yard? Re: Need something to buy
Alright it's officially too much hassle. I knew I wouldn't really be able to fly it from my own back yard or anything crazy like that, but realistically I think I'd just wind up putting it in a shed and flying it perhaps once a year, terrified the whole time. I think I'll save up and buy that hovercraft.
Now all I'll need to do is fill it with eels.
Eh, eh? Eh?

I am no longer infected.

Woah... that's actually a pretty good idea! I don't know though... I don't think I could fake having a gut like that at my age, especially since I'd be thin everywhere else.
