Either play the stable version or use the updater?

Yeah I have the same problem with adobe acrobat every time I start it it says it needs to be updated so I say ok I will get the update and I shut down my computer and call adobe and tell them I am mad because I bought the acrobat professional CD and now they changed it one day later and I demand they send me an updated version and they do and it costs me $10 shipping and handling then I get it in the mail and I put it in my computer and it says there is another update so I called them again and they said just let it download updates from the internet and I said huh wtf dude and I demanded they send me an updated version because I don't want to get a virus or spyware when I open the pdf manual from my brand new monitor because I need the installation instructions because what if there is something I need to do before I switch out my current monitor and I don't know if it will crash my computer so I tell adobe to send me the latest update and they hang up and it took me 8 years to finally get acrobat running but now it says I need an update again so I am sad.

CaDownloader is designed to run on background.
It runs at lower priority (downloading/zipping thread) and only auto updates if CPU is below 30%.

Use downloader if you want to play latest release.

CA also provides "STABLE" release (once per month), which you can get from files.caspring.org
This is generally "major" version you only have to download it once. Its used in CA tourneys etc.

I would put that to UF but it refuses to upload for some reason..

Man,i read ur faq somewhere on the website i think where it says ud have a new stable version every week or 2..Instead it just lies there totaly outdated and you all host the newer ones..
You get tones of improvments and changes and you know the satble version doesnt have them.
Again, host the stable version more.. ca is mostly played on springie or when some dev hosts it so host the stable version more and people can get used to it.
You making so many changes all the time the game just changes left and right.Whats the point of making small balance tweaks for example if ur gonna revamp the entire balance anyways?First u have an ota balance now u want to make a flat balance, that means changing everything so why not just redo it accordingly and than tweaking as you test it instead of ,as wrote, tweaking and than suddenly redoing everything that way u wont have to do so many changes all the time..I mean all the balance changes now will be absolete when u change the balance to a flat one which means wasted testing time and a lot more updates than needed.

I will tell you a secret... CA is updated so intensively just because its just an excuse for advertising it.

"try new cool effects, now in CA!"
"try new, even cooler effects in CA!!"
...

See the crappyness? it feels like TV-shop nowadays: you seem to see even better and better product every month, but they all actually is same, and sucks, and people stops buying them -> until they makes new even cooler and newer astronaut technology super easy cheap product with special offer if you buy it today and lose weight while using it.

It's not all the same. We like trying the cool new effects, and two days later trying cooler new effects. It's fun. If you hate it, don't play. This isn't about the game evolving, this is about people not realizing that they don't have to download a 30mb mod file twice a day if they just realized there's an updater. See my comedic post above.

So you're complaining both about the infrequent updates AND the frequent ones?

While CA aims for some major structural changes, we still want to keep game well balanced and fun to play.
Major changes take long time to design and implement and meanwhile we just want to have our mod bugfree and balanced.

Also CA is actively developed by some 6-7 people. With so many people working on lots of stuff, changes must come step by step (to not overwrite changes of others, to help keep track of all of it etc.), so frequent commits (commit = "save" change and auto create new version) are encouraged.

Still actual balance changes are usually very rare and minor (about 1 per week or two weeks) even for development version. Saktoth is in charge of balance and he is very conservative. So most of these frequent commits are minor bugfixes, added models, effects or features, etc.

STABLE is released when there are no known major bugs or disbalances. Then we proceed with some larger changes again and "break" stuff a bit.

People still host mostly latest version, because its so braindead simple to get it and they just like to play with newest possible stuff.
Stable versions normally account for about 30% of games. Previous STABLE had 407 unique people downloads just from CaDownloader, which is still more than any other version.

I just tried CA today, and I was really impressed. Very nice especially the small things (menu, help, upgrade etc). It's getting much closer to look like a pro game.

I downloaded 3 times also :), but you always can host yourself stable so I do not think this is a big problem. If there are enough players there will be enough games of latest and stable.....

Nonsense, I had the same experience. The download is short but the whole packaging takes too long. Too many people play the testing version instead of the stable so the downloads are still frequent.

Springie games which seem to be the most common games seem to take at least 5-6 minutes to start even at peak springie times enuff time to get new version and it to package and be up to date ive never missed a game from log on.

I always switch CAdownlaoder on from spring start up tho

i agree with the first post.

And if ther are arent allready clearity about this. This is like the opisite of the release of P.U.R.E yeah it exists. It never get spammed. I am just tired to hear every time i need somthing that is very better than the version that i cant use anymore. I very much like this mod because it has much different gameplay. but it seems that the moment i got my hands of it it outdated. and i think this is a problem. Best for this would be i think a page that get ordered by date of upload a list of mods. Give everybody just a file download next to the updater witch is great work. If ther was a main page other than UF that host links to the mods that got latest uploaded i think some new releases also would get more noticed and maybe more played.

What about adding 2 links?

one private for developers, generated after every commit and one public generated every 20 or 30 changes.
