NOTA Vid

Post by TheBigPK »

Hey all,

I've been playing NOTA a TON and wanted to dig in to video editing with fraps... so I started making a bit of a video showing it off. Just the intro is done and its 4 am so I'll finish tomorrow. Check it out and give me some input :-). I really want to change the text to something like "Prepare for something new" rather than "This is not the original;" the latter might throw people off, eh? The song is NIN "Just Like You Imagined" from one of the 300 trailers, sounded awesome with their content.

Keep in mind this is like the second video I've put together (er ever) and its still pretty messy, but I figure it'd look better youtubified... if it blows too much I'll just make it for my own enjoyment :P

Hrm, too new of a member to post a hyperlink it appears (2nd post, iman00b here :P), but I uploaded it to Unknown Files under media titled NOTA Vid Intro. Trying just the text url:

spring.unknown-files.net/file/3178/NOTA_Vid_Intro/

Very nice! It seems to be coming along great. I'm loving the choice of music

A few criticisms/suggestions:

1) Don't use the same shot twice. You have two shots of the boat heading towards you, turning gray. Maybe try a shot of the boat from the side? Also, right at the start, where you flash between the two shots of the tank, its a little confusing. Try just sticking with the one shot.

2) I would try a blur rather than a pixelate between the ship shots, as a personal preference.

3) When the planes are flying overhead (nice shot btw 8) ), some of them seem to be flying sideways. Im guessing its cause they are running into each other, of flying off a hill. It looks kinda odd. If you could fix that it would be awesome.

4) You can see the cursor in some shots. Try and keep it off camera, it kinda spoils the effect. Also, type '.info' into chat to turn off your name in the corner.

Keep at it, its going sweet

Can you do me a favour?

DO NEVER EVER USE WMV AGAIN.

Many users can't play those files. Why don't you use some kind of avi-container with - for example - a divx or xvid-codec? or switch completely to an open format like OGG?

@vid: good idea. nota needs to be pushed. ;)

yeah, pls no .wmv Linux user and Windows user are hateing .wmv. AVI is a lot of better. Use h.264 compression or divix or xvid.

Is the video only *45 seconds long?

Its the 300 theme, not sure what it's name is.

Good trailer, but isn't 45 seconds is a bit short?

Edit:

He mentioned the name of it in the description:
The song is NIN "Just Like You Imagined" from one of the 300 trailers, sounded awesome with their content.

This looks very good, however i think the finished version should be made with the graphics turned up max and with some good fps (but maybe thats just wmv).

honestly i would avoid the low close shots on the ships as u can plainly see the missing geometry of the model. Also might want to alternate between the Black Hydra and whatever Arm's battleship is...

Sweet thanks for the help :). I agree on the second close up of the ship looking really bad (I do have a sideways one to use) and the plane shots were hard to do, I'll try something else for that. The reuse of shots was probably because I was so tired and really wanted to get the zoom out shot of the tanks timed with the bass entering the song, I'll get some new ones in.

So does the text work though? "This is not the original" might sound bad, maybe "Prepare to encounter something new?" Or I could leave it, it is Not Original TA after all.

Lets see, I like the Idea of it.

I agree with using another form of coding so its not the dreaded WMV.

The planes flying weird well look weird.

Also Up the Frame rate to at least 40 so closeups look well smooth and try the smooth cam! :-)

I can appreciate you hating on wmv, it's not a great video format... That being said, download VLC already and stop whining.

1. use FSAA if you didn't already.
2. built-in spring video caputre will allow you to make a smooth video (at 1x speed) regardless of fps. It doesn't capture ingame sound, though.
3. it made me download NOTA, which means you've made some good stuff. waiting for moar.

PS aforementioned smooth cam is /viewfree.
