That's because most people don't know very well how to play XTA. While you have godly players of oTA (i've seen insane demos of insane players), in XTA, most people are either new to TA or old oTA veterans new to XTA.munch wrote:...
I'd like to see a good XTA recording too. Almost all the XTA games I've seen or played in go like this "build some stuff, but don't attack much cause defenses are too strong" until "first gollie is built and wipes everything". Or else the same thing on a larger scale with Mr. K instead of gollies. Actually that's not quite true - I did see an excellent 3v3 game on Redhaven with SJ, SHINTAR and others ...
But there's also a funny thing... That so many people complaint in oTA about the games ending in rushes and requesting for "Build-Time".
That's because LRPCs suck in XTA.munch wrote:...
e.g. I've yet to see anybody use LRPCs effectively.

File named "0.51b1 XTA 3v2 GOW 25-5-06".
In this demo, the game is won by raiding pressure and mistakes by the loosing side.
It's an unfair battle of 3v2 in Gods Of War (i love GOW and i like 3v2 battles. They're always fast and messy).
Me (Paulada), EnlightenedOne and Storm battle it out LathanStanley and Ted.
You can see good team play between Lathan and Ted. Ted rushes out for brawlers while Lathan goes sea and does a double task of protecting himself and his mate.
Because of that, we pressured Ted's island to good effect.
When a strong pressure starts, so does the mistakes of Lathan and Ted.
You can see that Ted, while rushing to Lvl2-Air, builds 2 lvl-1 factories. Not only that, he leaves them both not doing anything when he could have reclaimed they're precious metal.
On Lathan's side, you can see that he built Lvl2-Sea. After that, he started an Warlord (that's 7K metal) which sucked up all of his metal, not leaving him much to defend against the raiding pressure. And as if that wasn't enough, he started building another lvl-1 boat factory.
Still, the game was won by mostly lvl-1 units doing raiding pressure.

File named "0.51b1 XTA 3v3 Redhaven 25-5-06".
In this demo, you can see my inability to play large maps

It's me (Paulada), DeadRAM and Felix, versus DaveTheBrave, Cabbs and Shintahr.
As you can see, all of the players of the team oposing me, started out in a very defenseless way, going for a quick build up of the economy.
While the map is somewhat big, i still managed to severely cripple DaveTheBrave (who was brave enough to hang in there

After some 30 mins of play, Shintahr finishes building up a strong economy and starts powring Zeuses and Fidos. And launches a devastating raid to my poor team mate DeadRAM and virtually annihilates him.
Only some time after, did the mass Goliath / mass Gunship attacks started. But still, i think that this demo also shows that we can rush the enemy and that raids of non-Gollies, non-Gunships work. Remember, it is a large map, suitable to build ups...
I have played a few times with DeadRAM before, that night. He is an old oTA player who said to be having troubles adjusting to the XTA economy. I say it's more than that because the other games i've played with him, were all land small maps and he always started with an aircraft factory. Of course he couldn't hold on to the pressure and ended up loosing. In this demo, you see him start by building a lvl-2 vehicle factory (That's a 1K/1K game we were playing...

I suspect that some of the complains that old players give to XTA comes from the fact that people are untrained and can't play as well as they remember to have played in the past...
yeah that GoW one was unfair but that lathan-stanley guy keeps saying he's better than me on that map so i think he deserved it :p pretty cool game the use of tritons was superb and the take-out of teds comm was very well done. i think that use of thunders along with the scouts could have helped ted /stanleys side in the beginning though since both sides were relying upon windgens and didn't put up radar till quite late. a gg well played but i don't know why this wasn't a ffa or 2v2v1 :S
does this qualify?
the metal is set too high at the beguinning, so, its possible to do grow fast.
i dont like that kind of game, but it was set that way.
resulted fun to play.
core prime.
3v3.

The SJ game was amazing.
Just a side thought, but while OTA has been played for years, XTA has only been really played since Spring came out. Since very few people know its quirks, in XTA tactics that require a lot of skill (such as raiding), fail miserably at this point. On the other hand, tactic that require very little skill (like porking) are easy to pull off. After more people get better at XTA, things like raiding will probably be effective again.
The Small Divide game was a testament to this. Since SJ was one of the programmers of XTA, he likely had a lot of time to get good enough to effectively raid.

Sorry for being so late Min3mat, but I´ve finally uploaded a replay.
Don´t expect greatness like SJ's replay though, me and Fobbah both make quite a few mistakes :) .
Here's the link: http://www.fileuniverse.com/?page=showitem&ID=1085
To tell you the truth I don´t think all that much of that replay, but its the only one from this version I have that at least includes some raiding.

It's been some days since i saw that replay but here goes.Min3mat wrote:... i think that 3 of SJs merls were inactive for 30s or so but thats the only hole i can see in his gameplay...
SJ only set sharing of his resources late in the game and in the mean time, he wasted much energy that could have gone to his mate.
He set up radar a little late but that might be just confidence enough to not built it earlier.
When the battle for the middle starts with pop up cannons, SJ makes a big mistake of leaving his pop up cannon without radar coverage. His pop up cannon finishes much earlier that they're oponents but he gained no advantage on that because he had no radar coverage to the middle and as such, his pop up didn't fired at anything and, eventually, allowed the oponent's pop up to get up leading to some harsh times.
Can't remember of anything else bad.
On the other hand, SJ was tremendous on resources. If you pay attention, you'll see how well he controlled the resources, not allowing himself to go into nano stall.
Also, he worked alot.
He took very good care of his pop up repairing them and stuff, making them last longer enough to win pop-up vs pop-up battles.
I spent most of my time watching the fightings in the middle that was going on almost continuously and he still had time to go and build alot of stuff in his base and go around scare the botom-right oponent with k-bots appearing out of the hills.
