having many, many problems with .72b1
Although I really like the game, I cannot get it to stop crashing. Usually, the game simply ends. But earlier today, it malfunctioned when I initialized a game load, it froze my computer and I had to do a hard restart. Also, the visuals seem to be buggy in this version. often, they will freak out and fray the colors, warp the text, etc. I have the screeshot of my latest problem on file, but can't post it. If the develpoers think it would help, I could email it to them.
Back to the crashing. I wish I could be more speciic, but nearly half the time I play a game longer than 5 min, the game simply quits, as though I pressed shift-esc. I would like to help the developers fix this problem in for the next release.[/img]

I'm running an Averatec 6200 seies, if that helps (laptop). AMD Athlon XP 2400+ w/ QuantiSpeed architecture. 666 MHz. 480 MB RAM. Microsoft Windows XP Home edition w/ sp2. 512 MB DDR. 15.4" TFT screen (@ 1280 by 800 pixels). Hardware acceleration is at full. My display adapter is an SiS M741. If there's anything else you need, ask specifically. Also, I just ran Spring again, test script @ mars, this time and yes, it simply aborted w/o and rhyme or reason.
sorry, I don't usually give them so I was combining what is on the label of my laptop w/ what the system properties says.

As a side note, I can't seem to figure out how to sucessfully join a game in multi. I finally figured out how to install the mods, but now I need more maps and the site won't let me download them.

Yikes... don't bother joining multi till you can run the thing stable in single player... or have you worked that part out now? for maps try:
http://www.ta-spring.com/maps/ or http://www.unknown-files.net/

if your running single player with the NTai that came with spring then thats your problem.

The version that comes with spring is XE7.5 which is horribly out of date.
The current version is XE9RC22, which is a 95% rewrite of XE7.5

So what you're saying is I will never be able to sucessfully run Spring on my PC? That's just great. Would downloading this new AI help? (btw, why does it not come w/ the "latest" version of he game)KDR_11k wrote:You've got an SiS graphics chip. That's your problem right there, these things suck badly.
If you ask AF, because the devs are insensitve to his hard work, if you ask the devs, it's because it's not compatible with the linux builds without a lot of work... the real answer is probably closer to "because we havn't had a new release in a while"...Jocken wrote:(btw, why does it not come w/ the "latest" version of he game)

Well, when XE8 was released I included the entire source package, including files that where only there for reference.
Because of these reference files, scons attempted to compile them automagically and spewed out its guts because they werent intended to be compiled, just referenced.
When people on linux initially complained about it I told them howto fix it and it worked but more people came and the general consensus at the end was that XE8 didnt work, which is totally incorrect. People are still saying use XE7.5 on linux because XE8 doesnt work despite me telling them howto fix XE8.
So the devs where left thinking NTai was broken and that I hadnt applied any of the fixes they had sent, which i had, so they didnt update the copy of NTai and thus XE7.5 was distributed.
Technically the installer should have had XE7.5 removed months ago when I demanded it be removed, and I am extremely unhappy about that still. Despite repeated messages you can still download a 0.72b1 installer with XE7.5 from the download page, despite me tellling them to remove NTai or update it immediatly or face NTai being withdrawn completely.
Simply saying its OK the next release will have the latest version you gave us just isnt good enough, because that was said months ago and we're still waiting for 0.73b1, meanwhile thousands of copies of XE7.5 bundled spring installers have been downloaded.
XE8 fixed a huge number of crashbugs and errors in XE7.5 and improved gameplay by possibly a factor of 20 aswell as improving speed and stability. Yet the vast majority of XE7.5 downloads have been made after these essential fixes where made. People are seeing NTai badly as a result, and they're trying out XE7.5 and coming to the conclusion spring as a whole has crap skirmish play, reflecting badly on not just NTai but the other AI's too and possibly the project as a whole.
There hasnt even been an official message put up on the download page warning users of the out of date AI that can crash spring regularly and cause blue screens of death on certain computers and the fast stable replacement available in the forums.
Anyway this time the opposite will occur. When 0.73b1 is released the version bundled with spring will actually be more upto date than anywhere else save my personal copy.
But should a repeat of this XE7.5 fiasco occur, I'll just withdraw NTai completely, stop distributing it, and unGPL it.
