Okay not be completely off topic here's my attempt to help...I'm no modder but I know the Upspring manual(or was it a tut) says you should vertically flip your UV-map texture(not the model itself) for it to fit in Spring. I haven't read the whole thread so don't be mad if I'm saying something completely irrelevent.
nah, that's just to get the texture pointing the right way back-to front because spring flips it relative to upspring/the UVmapped model.

Yeah Das Bruce the polys/faces on that side are definately inverted, but i don't know how to correct the problem...flipping the polygons in Upspring doesn't do anything & i don't really want to waste space on the texture with things that are really just clones & mirrors.

i've tried remaking the model again with only a single object. the texture shows up when visible but while it is cloaked i see the 'all the ta textures' trick again:

i can't tell what it's doing when it goes invis. is it drawing both sides of each polygon & applying transparency? do the polygons even have two sides?
should i be giving each polygon two sides in the editor & creating a part on the UVmap for them?

Select one half of the vertex's and flip them horrizontal, then drag them to the other side of the non selected vertex's, then select the other ones and flip those. Should work.

in Wings?

In the UV mapper of your choice. Upload it somewhere and I'll take a crack for you if you want?

ah wait, i can mirror/invert/copy the objects in wings before i export them but they'll still keep the relevant UVmap - this correct?

edit: yes this has corrected the inverted faces now, just making all the necessary objects for Upspring seperately in Wings instead of letting it screw up the geometry.

The unit still doesn't have a proper texture when cloaked - has anyone ever made a cloaking s3o unit before?

here's the model and textures - is there something incorrect about the way i've named them?

http://www.bestsharing.com/files/ms0018 ... b.rar.html

the unit is called HASSHOVER1b & has a pair of 512x512 RGBA .tgas as textures

out of curiousity i told another s3o unit to cloak (hope you don't mind smoth)
Image

same thing happens - the texture gets all messed up.

BUT this looks a little more interesting. those aren't OTA textures showing up - are they your textures smoth?

i have a feeling i might be able to trick the unit into wearing a more sensible texture if i find the right place to plant it - i'm guessing the TAtex folder.

still doesn't work, i've just come up against the OTA 2048x2048 texture size limit. i assume that i could remove all the OTA textures and just sub in some blackish tilign texture that'd lok like a cloaking field, but then every unit would look the same.
it seems like everywhere i try to take this mod i break the engine

s3o models - can't cloak (cloaking race!!!)
shields - can't drain e all the time (Shield wielding race!!!)
lightning passes stright through shields (primary weapon of cloaking race!!!)

makes me want to cry

admittedly all the last two need are some new FBI tags, but i have the nasty feeling the s3o model thing won't easily dissapear.

that is ok, it is all a learning process. You should pm JC about it.
