Spring 102.0 released!

Post by abma »

We are proud to announce the release of Spring 102.0! Spring is a versatile 3D RTS game engine.

Thanks to all of them who helped making this release possible! So many people helped in fixing bugs, testing, giving feedback and sent patches! Thanks a lot! This makes this project really fun!

This release is a bugfix release which improves the performance in comparison to spring 101.0. The spring installer doesn't contain a lobby any more, so players must install a lobby which automaticly can download the required engine when playing online.

Please test spring 102.0 as it will be set as default version on lobbyserver on Wednesday, 13. July ~20:00 gmt+1 if no blocking bug is found. Download links will be updated then as well.

Spring 102.0 is default engine version on the lobby server!

The changelog contains more details.

Most users won't need a download link, as lobbies can download them automatic. for the completeness:

Note: Please report bugs to our bug-tracker, thanks!

We have two server crashes which happend only on particular map with 101.0.1 dev 470

http://replays.springrts.com/replay/7c8 ... b078101e2/
http://replays.springrts.com/replay/379 ... 52dac7d44/

But im not sure if can report that as an issue of the 102.0, because im not sure that version is equal to 101.0.1 dev 470

I know how to report, I just ask whats the difference between 101.0.1 dev 470 build and 102.0 (do not see any tags in engine commits related to release in engine repo),+ dont know how to report that in mantis which offers me just 102.0 or 102.0+git verrsions and my server crash (without anything in log, just stop to respond) only on Canyon Redux map.

Thx for answer. Ok, I will report my issue properly in mantis as 102.0 issue.

Feedback related to the this build based on nota intensive testing is in the last comments of the 102 RC3 release: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=34832&p=578418#p578389 Im you sure you checked it, just re-linking it together (for uninformed users and other testers as the inspiration)

Would it be possible to have a short summary of the relevant changes, so that we can better sell the new engine to players.

no. create a mantis report with infolog.txt + replays please.

All changes listed in changelog are relevant. Its difficult to make a summary which is good for game developers AND players. This release mostly fixes bugs, so maybe "Fix & Improve LoS performance" is the most interesting change.

You can see the summary at the top, in the "general' section. I guess it's just missing a "Lots of bugs fixed", which is what the release was all about really.

Edit: abma beat me to it ;(

I notice a performance increase, and I'm relieved to find that the overview camera has been fixed!

Not sure if bug or not, don't see anything like that in changelog however:

turretless units (with restricted firearcs) in S44 do not turn to face the target now. That means they do not engage enemies unless manually turned to face the proper way. Same with attack ground orders - they only fire if the target is already in firing arc, otherwise they do nothing.

This engine is carnivorous and dangerous. In a unguarded moment it turned on me, and took a bite from my leg.

I tryied to beat it to death with the stump, and i had to break the teeth out of that monster to get it to flee. Its still out there in the night, stalking us, this very moment.
How could you release this?

I haven't seen any bugs with 102.0 in Zero-K yet. However, it took a lot of prior work to make things compatible.

Forboding Angel I had transport problems which were solved by boosting their maneuverability. Losing a bit of physicness is worth the benefit.

Was anything changed related to SET/GET UnitSensorRadius? I the cursed units are blind while borrowed and then regain sight when unburrowed. However, in 102 the units have unlimited (or at least very huge) los.

Code: Select all

					--see again
					local los = Spring.GetUnitSensorRadius(unitID, 'los')
					local airlos = Spring.GetUnitSensorRadius(unitID, 'airLos')
					local los = ud.losRadius*16
					local airlos = ud.airLosRadius*16
					Spring.SetUnitSensorRadius(unitID, 'los', los)
					Spring.SetUnitSensorRadius(unitID, 'airLos', airlos)

Spring 102.0 is now the default version on the lobby server. this mostly affects relayhosts / springlobby users which don't have a local engine installed.

High maneuverability is the issue. Evo's transports are the most maneuverable of any in spring I would venture. But there are other, far more serious issues:

https://springrts.com/mantis/view.php?id=5274: transportUnloadMethod 1 and 2 multiple transports unload in the same spot

https://springrts.com/mantis/view.php?id=5275: transportUnloadMethod 1 fallspeed is far too high

https://springrts.com/mantis/view.php?id=5276: Atlas style transports with high maneuverability sometimes have trouble loading and unloading passengers

https://springrts.com/mantis/view.php?id=5277: Transport unload method 2 passengers fail to unload
