I just found some of my game manuals and stuff and took a bunch of pictures.

Tbh, those manuals made the games about 500x better, just by having them. I would read them cover to cover, over and over again.

Wireframe diagrams of the ships in WC1? Hells yes!

I especially loved the story in the Wing Commander Armada handbook thing. Oddly enough, only certain versions of the game had that. I was one of the lucky ones that got the handbook with the full story stuff.

I was mesmerized by the story told from the Kilrathi POV.

Aces of the pacific manual has a section where practically every plane used in the pacific air war was listed along with specs of them and some history. I read that section over and over and over and over.

Good memories.

When I was a child I had to sleep in a paper bag, work 27 hours a day and eat cold gravel for lunch. We didn't have any computer games.

When you tell that to today's kids they think you are exaggerating...

And I thought I might have been the only person here who didn't play much computer games as a kid ;)

(I used to dream of living in a lake, Château de Chasselas, etc)

I played D2 Like a BOUSE. There is a pretty fantastic remake being worked on... lemmie see if I can re-find the site.

So I found this today and got it. I have been dying to play this game again for upwards of 15 years. Today I got my chance, and it was FUCKING AWESOME.

My childhood computer games were mostly pirated, we didn't have anything else here.
The only legal game I had was a FIFA97 my brother brought me from Canada.

I had one of those 8-bit platform things.
And it had Contra.
I would win Contra without losing a life.

I started gaming back in 86-88. Sopwith and PacgirlA were by far the best PC games of that time.

TA came much, much, later (nearly a decade). In fact, TA was one of the most amazing games I had ever played when it came out. It was so far ahead of everything else.

The one that I remember the most and wish was remade was Albion! I loved that game with warts and all.

Makes me feel a bit old, but one classic is missing! I must have been really young, but I can remember playing Pong on this:
Image
(it also had a rifle with which counted if you succeded to hit moving white quares on the TV... real futuristic )

My second addiction was this: http://www.plasticpals.com/?p=13496 and then Pitfall! on an Atari console.

And way later[*] there was Day of the Tentacle, Descent, Quake and of course TA.

[*]after all the distraction from opposite sex and beer came and after a while calmed down a bit again... at least enough to show interest in anything else. Although I remember spending a lot of time with Lara Croft

Some early C64 favorites that comes to mind are Jumpman, M.U.L.E and Shamus:

I think they were all part of my first pirated batch, a bunch of 5.25 floppy disks, i was very happy for quite some time after i got those :).

C&C redalert is pretty much the oldest game i remember having played when i was young, tough i have a crap memory so i played alot older games than that for sure just can remember.

I also have fond memories of future cop: lapd and need for speed hot pursuit and hight stakes.
I still enjoy playing these games today.
