How exactly do rankings, such as newbie, beginner, etc work? Is it a set number of games per promotion, or is it a set number of victories, or something else?

its just the ingame time. the more you play, the higher your rank.

in the battle lobby press F1 then go to the next screen it will tell u the times needed for each rank. Also press /ingame to see your time. Also caldera did u get that name from morrowind?

no, its from TA

a map or planet in the campaign was called that.
