Re: Dual monitors in Ubuntu

I've got two 1280x1024 monitors side by side, and rather than checking the dual-screen mode in Spring Settings, I just set the overall resolution to 2560x1024. It gives the normal mini-map in the upper left corner, and shows a wider field of view with no distortion. You can view more map at once tha...

Re: AAI v0.86 install

Yeah, I'm having the same problem. The download listed in the AAI 0.86 forum thread only has a windows dll. For linux, there needs to be and AAI.so file either in /usr/lib/spring/AI/Bot-Libs/ or in $HOME/.spring/AI/Bot-Libs/ I looked around for the AAI source code, and can't find it. I'd be happy to...

Ok, I checked my installation. I had used the .deb package to install AFLobby. The odd thing is that the directory /usr/share/games/aflobby/lobby/aflobby/minimaps/ is owned by shane (that's me), member of group shane, and the permissions are 744. What happens if you have more than one user on the ma...

If you are using ubuntu (both 32 and 64 bit) you should consider using Yokozar's apt repository for spring (which contains unitsync with the correct bindings): That's exactly what I did. And I can verify that I can join and host games across 32/64bit Linux/Windows platforms using SpringLobby. So is...

Ok the first issue is not an AFLobby issue it's a unitsync compilation/linker issue. Hmm, would it help you to know that I can log into the server with SpringLobby? I haven't tried to join a public game with springlobby yet, because I don't want to ruin a game for someone. Maybe I'll get the same c...

OK, tried it out. I'm on an AMD64 machine with Kubuntu Gutsy Gibbon as the OS. Once I got the proper default Java binary setup, (sudo update-alternatives --config java) AFLobby opened and I, as advised by the readme, went to Lobby Settings, and set my path to settings++ and to TASServer.jar. (is tha...

Clericvash, the ubuntu install method in it's simplest form still needs you to run 3 commands in a terminal, it can't really be "click download in a browser". Disregard this if I misunderstood your comment. The nice thing is that once you set up the repository, spring will automatically g...

nm I got it working with envy yay! That was exactly what I was going to recommend. For some reason, Ubuntu makes is a real pain to install the latest drivers. If you're content with older drivers, the package management route works great, but not all of us are happy with that. Just take note of hav...

You probably did this, but have you installed the corresponding -devel packages for all of these dependencies? Simply installing the base package doesn't work if you're compiling from source code. Usually, it's something like: packagename-devel or packagename-dev that you need.

Personally, I like the idea of having at least a dozen or so of the more popular maps in a package. Of course, you'd have a lot to choose from. Would there be any way to package the current Windows lobby to work with WINE? There's a hack to get it to work on Linux and get it to open the Linux versio...

@ hollowsoul Right on the money. @Masse Heh, if I were recommending a distro to a total n00b, I'd recommend Ubuntu first. Especially if it was a 32 bit system. I'd have reservations about recommending 64bit Ubuntu, my experience was based on the Dapper release, so maybe things are better supported ...

Seems kind of pointless to install a 386 version of Ubuntu when you have a perfectly good 64 bit processor. FWIF, Spring itself works beautifully on my 64bit OS. Running Gentoo, of course. I got a bit frustrated with Gentoo last year about the time when they moved to the 7.x version of X. Most of my...

The only reason people find Windows to be "easier" is that they don't have to put up with installing it. Anyone here ever build a computer and install Windows? It's a pain in the butt. Some versions of Linux are a pain in the butt too, others are about as easy as you can get. For example, ...

Most likely, if you go out and buy a computer, you'll end up having Windows already installed on it and won't have the option of getting it without an OS (the so called Microsoft tax) If you build your own, on the other hand... Personally, I use Linux pretty much all the time. Most of the games I pl...

Just played a few games using WINE yesterday. No serious problems at all. WINE version: 0.9.8 from a Gentoo Linux ebuild. (by the way, the TASpring ebuild I got from the wiki worked quite well, and I'll be switching to it as soon as the sync troubles are fixed and the lobby is done.) I made absolute...
