Re: XTA 9.75

5 years ago is far too recently. Should revert to Yxan version IMHO It was close to perfect. Total polar opposite to BA, horribly unforgiving economy wise but close to perfect.

Re: Decline in the number of players

The breakup of my 2nd marriage meant I didn't get a chance to play Dune 2 very much like I did when Herzog Zwei was the RTS to beat.

Re: Decline in the number of players

It's been a long time since I played this game (I'm going to try and get back into it in the summer when I've some free time) but my main criticism of it in the past is you've let the noobs run the show. The end result is defence, defence, defence. And defence = repetition. It's human nature for new...

Re: The Modern Spring player, for better or worse / Autobalance

You guys are far too concerned with large team games. You'll never get them balanced because people are too inconsistent. Expecting an auto-balance to be able to work out the best teams is a bit outlandish. Maybe it might improve things slightly... but at the end of the day large team games are alwa...

Re: The Modern Spring player, for better or worse...

There's no need to rank everything. You rank team games and that'll just cause all sorts of arguments and tension that the game doesn't need. It's not like nobody is going to play team games if they're not ranked. 90% of people are still going to be more interested in them. Of course once you introd...

Re: The Modern Spring player, for better or worse...

I just thought of a great solution. Skill based ranking on the number of 1vs1 games you've played. It could be separate from the existing ranking if absolutely necessary. Should be to do with the number of wins you have as opposed to the time you've spent. I think that would separate the men from th...

Re: The Modern Spring player, for better or worse...

Hi Flozi! Single player campaigns don't have any learning value really. You'd learn more from a single multiplayer game than months of playing in isolation. A few patient experts can teach hordes of newbs to play quite respectably in no time, assuming both parties have some patience with each other ...

Re: The Modern Spring player, for better or worse...

More small games is a good thing for keeping the playing community active too. You could have 4 games running 1vs1 instead of a single 4vs4 game. Less time waiting for matches to start. Shorter matches so new games starting more frequently. When you don't have a particularly huge community it helps....

Re: The Modern Spring player, for better or worse...

Large games are more 'instrinsically fun' because they allow you to play more lazily. In a 1vs1 the game ends quickly, with 'whoever has the most tanks', if the players aren't evenly matched. If they are evenly matched then they have the same number of tanks, they tech up or change strategy and the ...

Re: The Modern Spring player, for better or worse...

The problem is the players have too much control and too much choice. Whenever this happens everything gets dragged down to the lowest common denominator. In the short term most players want a particular type of game. Long winded, predictable and defensive. You can give them that in the short term b...

Re: new site

Looks absolutely wonderful guys. The video is extremely classy too (no cheesy music over the top, something nice and subtle). Only thing that jarred with me is the red hyperlink text. It hasn't got enough contrast so it looks ugly and is very hard to read. You should use the light blue colour that's...

The way to best promote this game is to have regular tournaments. You don't need more new players, you need to hang onto the ones you have for a longer period. At the moment the problem with the game is that people get to a certain level of competance, dont see anywhere to go, play a load of really ...

Mars and Small Divide are starting to look very dated. Anybody who needs them can download them. It's certainly time for a change.

There should be a different map in the installer every time there's a new release. Everybody who needs Small Divide and Mars knows how to download it. Probably the most successful way of bringing third party maps into the Total Annihilation multiplay scene was tournaments. There used to be a few new...

I suppose I'd rather see changes made to the mod balance to make the Commander easier to protect (there are lots of changes you could make) rather than the nerf him to the point where he's completely expendable and people are prepared to throw him away. Everytime I'm playing a large team game and it...

Well there's no doubt but good maps need to be promoted better. Whenever I see a new map in the muti client view it usually ends up being some crap variant of SpeedMetal except uglier.

I hate it when someone uses the word "hate" to describe my work. If you make the current site less cluttered, add in better news support, a graphic header and a slightly less neutral colour scheme you end up with the new site as it is. (With language and theme support as a bonus) And it's a site fo...

I really don't like how much the Commander sucks in this mod. I propose making the game unplayable in Comm Continues, give him lots of armour and a cheap cloak that you can afford easily after 10 minutes. That way people will just have to be careful he doesn't die for 10 minutes, and then can cloak ...

I absolutely hate the new website design. The current design is pretty good. It's just slightly cluttered and could do with better newsposts and a new header graphic. Maybe a slightly less neutral colour scheme would be good as well. The new one has ugly colours, adds more clutter and generally look...

The thing is he was never that hard to protect in TA. In the late game when you had enough resources you could put him on cloak. And if the map had water you could hide him in there and it was unlikely someone would find him. I like how in OTA how the more aggressively you used him the more effectiv...
