Complete Annihilation

Introduction

Complete Annihilation is generally the second most played mod in Spring. It has an active playerbase and while it is still under development, it is kept fully playable. It traces its heritage to Total Annihilation, however, CA is not OTA. It is gradually moving away from OTA, replacing the copyrighted models and textures with open-source ones while shifting change the gameplay dramatically. CA aims to be a dynamic, action-packed, hassle-free game, full of clever strategies and constantly moving combat.

Design goals

  • A large range of viable tactics.
  • Larger emphasis on unit decisions/selections and their micromanagement.
  • Less emphasis on economy micromanagement.
  • All units situationally useful throughout the game (there is no unit redundancy, heavy and light units work together on the battlefield).
  • Superior graphics and appearance.
  • Powerfull LUA GUI enhancements to free your hands and allow players to focus on tactical decisions (air transports automatically ferry units from factories, units can be set to autoretreat when damaged etc.).
  • Faster and more demanding gameplay (units move faster and unit selection is more important).
  • Unit differences achieved using game dynamics and not using special hidden damages/armor classes.

Features

  • Commander Boost - No more boring wait for your commander to build your initial factory.
  • A slew of helpful widgets to ease management of your mighty robot empire. Some examples:
    • Area Mex: A constructor will automatically attempt to place mexes on any available spots in the selected area.
    • Unit Auto Group: Automatically puts units of a certain type into pre-defined unit groups.
    • Nested Buildmenu: A categorized menu for constructors.
  • Windmills which gather more energy when placed at a higher altitude.
  • Terraforming!
  • Morphing Units!
  • Streamlined Economy - you can feed your metal extractors with excess energy, removing the need for inefficient (and dangerous) metal makers.
  • Originator for the renowned Chicken defense mode of play.

Gameplay

  • Quick fast paced action.
  • No effective single unit spam (hopefully).
  • Kbots and Vehicles are both viable on most maps.
  • Arm and Core have a different play style.

Mutators

Deployment Mutator

Place your units and give orders to them before the game starts: you don't have to wait to use the big guns.

Tactics Mutator

Place your units on the battlefield before the game starts then wipe out your enemy. With no economic management, you are free to exercise your tactics.
