U can get winrar at http://www.rarlab.com

it's free.

Besides Spring doesn't run on anything else than windows (yet) so .zip isn't really useful now. But i'll see how much different the different types make.

And why does everyone ask for metal maps :P

Cus in Metal Maps you dont have to worry about running out of Metal :P

Also, I can just imagine a beautiful metal map done with atlantis metal style water, would be enough to bring tears to ones eyes.

The tools I got from Redfish can be downloaded here. However, I didn't get them to work, myself, so if any problems, ask Red.

i suggest everyone use 7-zip ( http://www.7-zip.org )

opensourced , free :) and usually better compression than RAR or ACE ...

Just to clarify TA map sizes are based on 512x512 increments. A 8192x8192 map would be '16x16' in this case.

Sean, could you verify just to be sure?

Thanks,

-S

I don't like the 7zip in particular better than winrar. For what I do with zip files etc it's not needed. I zipped my new comet map so everyone can open em now.

The tut in in the other map making topic.

Metal maps are impossible at the moment. Because they have like these condo like things like in block wars. Spring can only make smooth maps at the moment. It's not possible to make a steep cliff that's exactly vertical. So it'll have to wait, or we should make flat metal maps.

Besides: only newbs play metal maps :P

Spring map sizes are made 128 tiles per OTA 'screen'. A 1024x1024 heightmap yields an equivalent of a 8x8 TA map.

It's possible to make "almost" vertical slopes - should be enough for most people.

Please, PLEASE can someone make an epic class map? At least 30 x 30 by the OTA dimensions? Real Earth would be wonderful, or Planet Battle Zone.

Also, what are the max dimensions that Spring supports? Anybody know?

Max is 8192x8192 at the moment, which means 16x16. Which isn't what you want.

:( This makes me unhappy. How can I be expected to send 300 bombers on a mission to your base if it doesn't take them 15 seconds to get there? Where will I find the space for producing 20K energy per clock tick (typical for my lan games)? 16x16 isn't big enough to ever be out of bertha range from each other. How difficult will this be to fix?

any way to fix up the outside of a map as I was playing on map 4 on the amphib op script and I was hunting down a core aircraft which having no Ai stayed outside the map.
had to manually fly a hawk outside the map and lure the aircraft back into the map

Its measured differently now, I've got a map with a texture of 8192x8192 which is comparable in size to expanded confluence.
