Thanks Andrej! I wasn't in glsl mode or using shaderless, with those on, everything renders now. That probably should have been mentioned somewhere on the blender site.
I wild melee bot has appeared! This thing looks like it would be a nightmare to get walking right, luckily I won't be trying animation until I get my models textured nicely.
Hmm. Looking at it now, i think maybe the "head" should be more angular in profile. To the blender-cave!
Cheers Smoth, just got 3 more to go now. The light and heavy transport and then the rapier. I'm liking the alternative pyro skin, just needs some purple flame with a slow mo weapon mod :)
My texturing is coming slowly. I think I've got how to do it thanks to Andrej, but I don't have the skill with it yet. Maybe you'll some texturing when I get my shiny new computer.
Better? It has arms now at least. So, that's good, right?
OMNIWHEEL SCOUT! Kind of a cute, zippy little number, I don't expect it'd be able to turn very quickly, but I want it to be fast, fast, fast!
Hmm. this was supposed to be a factory, but I think the design got a way from me. i kinda like it better this way though, it just might not really be as fitting. Scrap it and move on, or try to replicate its success?
Mechanincal energy bank. The (magnetized)rod in the center is constructed so that it is all the way in the ground and during an energy surplus hydraulic jacks steadily slide it up, during deficits, the rod slides down powering a linear alternator. Just though it'd be a little something different and more distinguishable than a giant D cell stuck in the dirt.
Simple Wind generator for early energy generation.
Anyway, I'm still learning, so anything and everything you feel like pointing out is fair game as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not sure the mechanical energy thing would work as it would need to be extremely heavy to store an appreciable amount of energy (and even then I doubt it would work).
Instead, I'd look up fly wheels, those store energy by spinning a wheel in a closed vacuum on magnetic bearings (it also makes for some fun dynamics, imagine a heavy weight spinning at 100,000 rpm loosing containment)

We have one 4x4 meter solar plant, or a tiny windmill, producing enough energy to feed several weapon-grade lasers and plasma guns. Surely, the mechanical energy thing can hold that much
Remember that a peewee isn't the size of a dog, and the peewee si what we've all set our scales at. These windmills and solar panels aren't table top devices.
As for lifting the heavy rod, gravity would demand it all come down at once, it's an extremely innefficient mechanism, for which a rod of button batteries would likely be far more effective ( despite the technological difference)
