I work at a breakdown recovery/garage company. A colleague has got word of a mate of his repairing a bike for sale, and has referred the guy to me as it looks like a bit of a bargain.

He is not a biker, and has not been able to give me a model, though he knows it is a 750cc Kawasaki Ninja, with a bit of research I've found that the ZXR 750 matches the year on the registration plate.

So I am asking most people I know who ride about this bike, might as well ask here. Have any of the resident spring bikers had any experience with this bike? I have only very limited experience of sports/racing bikes, having spent most of my time on a Bandit (GSF600). I'm pretty enthusiastic about the bike in general, especially at the price he is asking, but I'm wondering if there are any particular mechanical issues I need to be aware of, and also how practical they are as day to day vehicles. I mean I presume its going to be a nightmare in general for slow speed stuff, but a little bit of an inkling quite how much would really help inform my decision.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

i've never ridden one but i've tried two 750cc sportbikes, and they were kind of scary (i only weigh about 145)

in canada, if you go above a 650cc engine, you end up paying a ton as insurance premiums (i suppose they figure big bikes are more likely to smash something) so is this something in play for you? if it is, you might as well go for an even more beastly bike... my dad had a yamaha 1250cc; i could barely touch the floor while stationary, but man... when you go, you go.

edit: when you mention price... don't worry about that too much. there are deals on bikes all the time... people get married, people have kids, people get old... eventually it becomes too dangerous for some... if you pass this one up, another opportunity will present itself sooner than you think
