Why do maps still have distance cutoff like this?

I recall lurker had developed something of a fix but it was contingent on something to do with with the 16/24bit zbuffer limitation? Is that still an issue?

Because the view range is still hardcoded to 8000 elmos.

Z-buffer precision will always be an issue, but you can bump it and see what happens.
