I think BA would easily fit under:
ESRB:
EVERYONE 10+
Titles rated E10+ (Everyone 10 and older) have content that may be suitable for ages 10 and older. Titles in this category may contain more cartoon, fantasy or mild violence, mild language and/or minimal suggestive themes.

As a comparison Supreme Commander is rated E10+ (for fantasy violence) by the ESRB.

Forb, how about you publicly release a 'LAN pack' for Evo that works internet-free with a couple of maps and TAAServer? It would certainly help spread the game, as not everyone is willing to have to install something like Desura* and make a separate internet download for the game every time. I would recommend that all Spring-based games do this too for situations just like the OPs.

*I love Steam, but there is a lot of irrational hate towards it - Desura is similar in this regard.

I do this on request. I have already done it twice before. But I don't particularly care to make such a download public, because I have no way to update it when it goes out of date.

I thought I should mention this.

Updating to 0.82.7.1 would be best if you're going to use the latest version of a game as you can't trust the games to be backwards compatible.

Here is some self-promotion better than MidKnight's; A link to the latest Zero-K sd7 which will make it easy to setup on an internet restricted LAN. I think it would be easier to pickup and play than BA as the resource system is simpler. But there are a lot more options from the start which makes it a bit more complex, although this is also a good thing as you won't run out of stuff to mess around with.

Google makes a decent point: (removed, I sent you a PM with a special version) is a link to the latest version of evo. Believe me that by just using that archive you're missing out on a lot of other good stuff, but none of it life threatening. But if you would like a special installer for internetless lans I will oblige happily :-)

Thanks for these links guys. It's really useful as I just don't have the time to checkout as many games as I would like. It takes a while as I have to check they work multiplayer offline and then make up an extracter that I have a special batch file run, and then make sure it runs on the computers! Then it's wait and see as to if the kids actually like them!

We already use Teeworlds and it is GREAT! Unfortunately the kids aren't bothered much about 2D and it doesn't get a look-in when Trackmania and World of Padman are available.

We tried Soldat and again 2D, not popular and I think Teeworlds is waay more fun.

From the look of it, League of legends requires Internet connection. Most of the cool new free games make money from ads and to do that they need the Internet. I would LOVE if we could get Wolf Team running behind the server as it looks ace. But as it's a MMORPG like many others it's not even worth me downloading.

Scorched3D we also tried, but the students' didn't have the patience for a turn-based game (the same problem with trying them with Civilization!

I think 0 AD looks brilliant and have already downloaded it to play around with and will roll out to the school computers if it works okay etc.

BZFlag we tried, but they weren't bothered as it's not very exciting graphically.

I would like to try Evolution RTS, I'll get the latest sd7 soon. Every now and then I download the latest version of Spring along with the latest mod versions and try them. We have CA and BA along with both chicken modes at the moment and a butt-load of maps. CA never gets played though. Students don't like to try new things! :) I think next term I need to make a new version of spring to roll out with several mods to try and wean them off Balanced Annihilation and onto the proper free mods. We need mods that work with the old SpringLobby and the Java server as the TASClient didn't work from behind the firewall (that was a while ago though).

Unfortunately I need to be able to use official evidence of this to allow people of any age to play it, otherwise I am leaving myself open to get in trouble. :(

You do understand that the esrb is an organization that rates games after evaluation right? Because they don't do that shit for freeware..

Just saying you will not get that for spring any sort of official anything.

Even if you could cursed is ma due to demons and naked bitches..

So in the end you have to evaluate the nature of said game and prepare the data accordingly.

Ah kids these days. When I was 11 my favorite game was Civilization 2, and I played that game like a boss. :D

I don't think I see Glest mentioned. Glest is a pretty good free 3D RTS, probably the biggest FOSS RTS project after Spring. I haven't been following it much recently but it seems to support multiplayer LAN now, and has turned into MegaGlest: http://megaglest.org/

(Btw, I see you are familiar with CA, it's actually been revamped as previously mentioned Zero-K.)

I trust game to be backward compatible with engine just a bit older more than I trust engine to be backward compatible with games just a bit older. >_>

I guess a 16+ is appropriate for The Cursed. Naked boobs can be seen in newspapers and on TV in the afternoon here in central europe but some people here may complain about the blood splashes (violence) in the game.
In the USA it is most probably the other way around - the blood and soft violence would be OK for kids, but a pair of naked boobs is not.

I think I'll skip including The Cursed then! :)

I tried to warn azaremoth about this long ago but he heeded not! I even suggested he make a family friendly version of his models. He insisted that in germany women walk around and conducted their business topless. Well finally I can say I told you so!

What's the point of pouring hours of love and passion in a free project if you have to maim your baby at the end to conform to american hypocrisy?

Well there are is a news paper here that has a naked women on the frontpage. Actually I would not call it a real newspaper - it is like the Sun - thus it has nothing to do with good journalism, but millions do read it everyday and take a look on the globes.
Computer games get X-rated in Germany if they contain blood. Even the german version of Command and Conquer (1) had black blood and robotic sounds for dying soldiers. Officially you killed cyborgs in that game...

I won't bow to the american hypocrisy! Hard violence and guns are good for kids as long as there are no swear words or naked boobs. Je ne plie jamais! Libert├® pour les lolos! And guess what - boobs do not make kids think that crimes of blood are a trivial offense. I am not too sure about the glorification of violence in the US media though...

I still don't see any reason why a good Christian should get crazy about boobs... A can't remember having read something in the Bible about boobs or anything that can be related to boobs... And moreover - I guess boobs were among the first things everyone of us saw on this planet...

you are arguing logic to someone explaining that people are illogical. That captain, is not logical.

also I was generous with the MA rating. if you want to really feel frustrated realize that you are really in the adult rating.

I agree with smoth's first post; the games themselves are harmless, but some people in the community can be immature, but this applies to the Internet in general. Since you are a teacher you have probably already brought up the etiquette of how to behave on the Internet anyway.

One point for you Sir! Sorry Smoth - I did not intend to argue with you. I just wanted to point out that people in the US are overreacting about naked skin (on the other hand they have the world's largest porn industry). But that has nothing to do with you personally... At least I hope so

Yeah - that is frustrating. I have to correct my first statement. The Cursed should be USK 16+ for Germany and A-rated for the US. I guess there is no way to have that kind of stuff harmonised internationally.
