Why not buy a game if you expect to play it with people?
I play it over lan. The only incentive for me to buy Minecraft would be online play as I see no reason to monetarily support Notch at this time, but it's network code is incredibly sloppy further discouraging me from buying it.
@ regret: because the only way to defend against players who hack is kickbanning. allowing such people to join without a means of permamently removing them is asking for pain

good news everyone, notch is going to add customizeable scaleblockx with next update.
Explanation .. Imagine you could zoom in on one block, and within that block, you would have a little world of its own- a system consisting of 128x128 blockx- and you can build and rebuild them just like everything else, and safe them in the end. That way we can have curves and stuff.
He also promised that there would be a tradesystem for such customized blockx, so you could trade redstone computerparts and other mechanical objects. Also the moving blocks can be scaled.
This is going to be so top-notch. no better trolling, then telling about that little part of the universe that went in a good direction. Well, maybee most of the stuff went into a good direction, except that cat overpopulation problem in those boxes.
