I figure most people reading this blog cares mostly about Minecraft development, so let me just say that I wonÔÇÖt be involved in the day to day development of Scrolls. Jakob, one of the guys I started Mojang with, is developing it, and has been since we started the company.
Anyway, yeah we just got beds and all, personally I found the latest patch to be weak but honestly the guy has been on vacation on and off for what feels like months now. Hopefully when he returns from the gdc we will see more stuff getting done.
Spread this idea around.... Minecraft survival needs to change. Creeps should not spawn at night instead they just spawn as the map gets generated and some creeps have different favorite zones where there is lots of them but they also have a chance of spawning anywhere.

Ladies and Gentleman: I┬┤ve got bad news. Mr. Notch, founder, creator and developer of minecraft, had a unfortunat smelting accident, while creating a golden cock and balls.

Right now, to modders, creeps can spawn on any block, and every block has a light value. So modders can make, for example, make creeps spawn only on underground mushrooms. (because underground is darker than night). The one exception is spawning blocks, but I think that basically just works by making a creep of a certain type spawn a certain distance from spawn blocks.
I'd really really really love some more environmental entities. So I could do something like make creeps only spawn in forest biomes of X size or larger, or creeps can only spawn on large ice floats, but it's boarderline impossible to create your own entity and make creeps spawn in that kind of an area.
I'm hoping the official modding API's give modders more access to stuff like that.

checked his blog to see he is still ranting about how successful he has been and how good stuff he has already done is. no evidence of any work being done

sIGH
If you made several million dollars and still continue to make sales daily, would you give a damn about your community comprised of primarily whiny kids with low attention span?
Dragging it out with micro updates will keep them occupied, the modding part of community helps too. He doesn't even have to do anything substantial, just copy the next big thing created by community for no cost and keep making sales. Like the latest map format. Externalizing will prolong Minecraft's life by several years.
Making a new game isn't really an option for him either, any other commercial game he makes will most likely fall deep under high expectations from Minecraft's success and won't be worth the effort.
Unless it's something like Minecraft 2 where he would build upon the already addicted playerbase. A sequel would have absurdly high guaranteed profits, if only because of the countless fanatical followers.

I feel like I've been duped. The game lost it's luster pretty quickly for me. There's no action, just annoying monsters that amble through the woods at night.
