Detail textures can greatly enhance the looks of a map, so here I present my collection of them.
http://www.springfiles.com/show_file.php?id=2443

You can specify them by adding the following line
Detailtex=detailtexblurred.bmp;
after maphardness=...; in the .smd file

And placing the detail texture into the maps folder next to the .smd file.

nice.
I was wondering...
For a metal map...
What would make it look as metallic as possible?

Yet another good investment for the mapping. Have you tried them in reality, in use? Any screens?

I used to play around with detail textures some time ago, but all my tryings ended looking pretty poor and messing up the main texture. Detail texture should be used to match with main texture. Could it be possible to use different detailtextures in same time with using typemap?

I looked at the rendering code, and allowing multiple detail texes based on typemap or any splat map would be prohibitively expensive, though sm3 should be able to do it in the future.

Artturi, all of these detail textures come from spring maps. They might need a tiny bit of tweaking but in general they work fine.

Spiked ?

Im pretty sure your doin it wrong.

Look at the specular / splatmap thread and use that technique to add different kind of detail textures to diff parts of the map.
