SD needs to get the fuck out of program files and start playing in userland like all the other non-retarded kids, and until it does, it has absolutely NO BUSINESS BEING IN THE INSTALLER!

Where is the list of of rules that determine what should be in the installer?

Apparently I'm supposed to Rant less.

Ok lets try this a different way. As spring changes, the programs playing a supportive role must also adapt to those changes. Spring Downloader now can play a very active and important role in spring's future, however, the fact that it tries to play in program files is a huge issue (pathing sync issues being one of them), so it needs to be changed before being included in the installer and representing spring and the rest of us in a negative light (Because after all, us game devs gain and lose face depending largely upon spring itself before people even get to the point of looking at our content). It is not a good thing for a 3rd party supportive program to be asking for admin upon initial run.

But the fundamental issue is the fact that it is not using my games/spring like it should be doing.

semi related; Latest spring installer defaulted to program files for spring installs, I'm sure it used to pick up my existing install path previously

Springlobby development team is in no way responsible or to be blamed for how you decide to advertise / present your game.

Presenting issues without pointing fingers and calling names might have a better chance of encouraging their timely solution.

Wrong. What is the first thing a new player sees? If the player decides that the lobby is rubbish then I never actually get to present anything do I?

Also, this is about springdownloader... why are we talking about springlobby?

How is the springdownloader developement team responsible for what you choose to bundle with your game? Nobody is forcing you to use their hobby work project.

(I misread springdownloader as springlobby, same argument applies though)

Regret - I'd be semi-inclined to agree with you - however, the fact of the matter is that the biggest share of people on the Lobby have Vanilla Spring installed (data - 2010 estimate by Sean Heron).
So currently the size of our "online player base", if you want, is quite heavily influenced by what is, or is not packaged with the Springrts.com Spring Installer.

Forb - though I didn't see the original post, it looks like toning down was definitely called for - good on you that you did.
