CA is a good game. More people would play CA if it didn't have so much widget spam. :regret:

Reasons I don't play CA:

  • Too many widgets - Would take a while to sort through all of them
  • Too little players - I like to get games there and then whenever I want instead of waiting around for ages
  • Too frequent updates - Yeh yeh, keep going on about your "Spring Downloader". It doesn't work for me, when it does it takes about 10 minutes by which time the CA game I'm waiting to join has started, also, you whine about "PLAY STABLE REVISIONS THEN", well, I would, but the games with all the players in are usually the test revisions.

If it wasn't for those three things, I'd quite happily remove BA from my mod folder.

In former times this widgets all over the screen annoyed me, but today there aren't too much widgets visible in CA.

I find the "CA has too many releases" complaint hilarious, since there was a period of a few months recently where Car was doing some deep juju with the CA test gui so Test was broken. This means for several months, everybody was playing the same Stable version.

Anybody who has this complaint hasn't played CA in a long time.

I mean releases as a in CA 1.0 Release! on the spring forum rather than stuff handled with springdownloader, which constantly fails and crashes for me

That gets you the latest stable. No Springdownloader required. As for "1.0" - you're complaining about version numbering?

I dont think that recent versions of downloader crash at all.
At least i have no crash reports from anyone.

It used to crash randomly when seeding due to bug in torrent library but seeding is now disabled.

Try upgrading it perhaps?

It had it, i had to remove it because people had incorrectly setup proxy in IE.

There are no intrusive widgets right now. Don't press f11, just play.

Fair enough. This is a very valid point. But please try using !notify with Springie and maybe the timing will work and you can join a game where there are enough people who are ready.

Incorrect... Major gameplay updates ended long ago. Everyone plays stable now and it's been that way for 6 months. I have to beg and plead regulars and devs to join the test server for various feature testing.

Also, try re-downloading Spring Downloader, as mentioned in this thread. It's been overhauled and is now at version 1.3.8.

Every widget is intrusive.

I always have to go through widget lists of new games because I don't like accidentally finding out midgame that my units go do whatever the fuck they want by themselves, or pressing alt only to fuck up what I'm currently planning on doing because it just happens to be used by a retarded gesture menu, or that I am broadcasting my selection/camera status.

Not to mention CA disables all your local widgets and you have to know how to re-enable them or you're screwed, yeaaa that's not intrusive. Did I mention it keeps downloading random images (avatars) by itself?

Car, it's not the widget list that's bothering me. It's the fact there are so many useless widgets and widgets that I don't even want there along with some I do want. You can't even read the widget list properly to sort it all out.

This is the third time I've been told, "Nope, doesn't happen any more redownload and try again". I redownload and try again, but nope, it either doesn't work or takes 10 mins or so to dl. Besides, updating that often is unnecessary.

First download always takes longer but its impossible for it to take 10 minutes to update CA..
It takes 2s from version to version.. (checked my log again to be sure):
4.1.2010 17:23:12: Download started: ca-1faction:test
4.1.2010 17:23:14: New resource found: Complete Annihilation 1 faction test-6518

Even in dial up it would take just couple of seconds.

Sometimes it can fail, it can fail if caspring.org site is down, which happens from time to time. But thats it.

If you have another problem, please be as specific as possible and talk to me directly. If its a real problem i can fix it.

Methinks thou doth protest too much midknight. Why the hell did you start a thread with a title like that.

Anyway, yeah, CA was frozen in stable for like 6 months, longer than BA. Our playerbase actually decreased.

Anyway, with 1faction, we're going to have to still have gameplay overhauls. So we're not out of the hills on that front.

Widgets, gui, downloading and updating is a problem. Chilli fixes nothing, its a buggy, crashy mess. Maybe one day it will be everything we need but as usual it overextends itself when a simple GUI would be enough. The game is hard to get and confusing to new players, all the way from the engine download to the lobby to CA itself. Its something we seriously have to fix if we want to really push this game out.

The point of release complaint is, at least in my case, that you need to "relearn" the game every single time. New things requires new thinking, and new kind of adapting. It frustrates when it happens too frequently. You can't enjoy the game anymore, but you need to put huge effort to learn process and get used to new things, new look etc.

Could you once listen what popularity says, and not deny and ignore! Spring mods are hard concept to learn even for hardcore players. Mods that keeps constantly evolving, makes it even more difficult. That's why BA has become popular, it has stabilized its position and people have learned it.

CA is great thing, I know, but I rather play other, more COMPLETE mods, until CA is done.
