Hi,

I was just reading through the Downloads page for the evolution RTS game, and got slightly stuck.

The Linux Mods paragraph, expects you to have already read http://springrts.com/wiki/SetupGuide

However for those that havn't, and have reached he point where they need to add the sd7 gamefile to their ~/.spring/mods, its not particularly obvious from that page, of how to proceed.

It would be far easier if the paragraph read:

If you already have Spring installed and are on Linux, then you need to read the mods setup guide: http://springrts.com/wiki/Ubuntu_install#Maps_.26_Mods
Then go here and download the raw gamefile and put it into your mods directory: http://download.evolutionrts.info

Possibly for inexperienced users/gamers, it'd be easier, to write a seperate mods wiki page, explaining very simply, that they need to:

Download the latest raw gamefile from here: http://www.springinfo.info/moddownloads/evolutionrts{latest}.sd7

Navigate to the .spring folder in your Home folder by:
Opening your Home folder from the Places/Computer menu, and navigating to the subfolder .spring (You may need to "Show Hidden Files" in the View menu, to be able to see .spring)

Create a folder named mods in the .spring folder by:
Once inside the .spring folder, right clicking on some whitespace and clicking "Create Folder" possibly in the submenu "Create New". Then naming the folder "mods", and opening it.

Copy the Downloaded evolutionrts{version}.sd7 file into the mods folder by:
Returning to the Desktop (the download folder), right clicking on evolutionrts{version}.sd7, and selecting Copy from the menu.
Then returning to the mods folder and right clicking on in the whitespace, and selecting Paste from the menu.

Finally:
Reload Spring Lobby from the Games menu, and select "Evolution RTS" from the "Mod:" menu.

It would be good for the same to be written for the Maps.

Thanks,

Matthew Millar

PS: There is no "proper contribution subforum" for this to be posted, so appologies for posting it into the main Site Content Forum

Thank you! It is a wiki, however, can't you make the changes yourself?

Once again, a post in a forum that i never check. WHy wouldn't you post this in the EvoRTS subforum?

I digress.

I'll change the location of the evo file, and update the module updater thingy.

That way I can do roughly 90% of what you suggested.

heh he wouldn't post it in the evo subforum because it's hidden unless you click the subsection to browse the project subforums; an honest mistake

perhaps we can do something about this and get ALL projects listed without having to click further in?
