ModelBase is model source sharing site with integrated subversion repository and game development tracking (progress of your mod models). It also contains list of latest news/RSS. Its designed for Spring projects and runs on spring main server.
It tracks: * models - their completion progress, comments, screenshots, tags * games and game units - which need models and which are already done, comments, etc * candidates - model can be a candidate for some game unit
Who can use it?
Modeler: * to notify game developers about new model in progress * to show others his work * to cooperate on model and get help * to get backup and hosting site for his work
Game developer: * to search existing models for suitable candidates for game units * to review game completion progress
Getting started modeler - login to site (login = registration), site creates your subversion account and new folder for your models - upload your models using these instructions - get back to site and fill additional information about your model. Your progress assesment, tags, notes, comments. - optionally put your model as a candidate for some existing units that need replacement models
Getting started mod developer - login to site (login = registration) - kindly ask Quantum to import data about your units from your game to the site - start managing your units and candidates
Notes - if you think there should be more/different tags - contact any admin (listed in users as admins) - it is designed for models that are WIP, dont be afraid to commit incomplete work, even work that you just started. - if you have feature suggestion or need to ask something, do it in this thread.
Btw there is some minor problem with subvesion - it does not show commit logs on client-side. If you have any suggestion, help would be appretiated. Im unable to solve this annoyance.
GPL for models is pointless; GFDL is more appropriate, if at all. CC-* are best IMHO, and cover 99% of the cases.
All CC `licenses` aren't FSF-free and so they won't get in many linux package systems (and so it covers <40% of all cases). And yeah, GPL'ing models is pointless, but there is the GPL-oriented ArtisticLicense2 (AL2), which really covers 99% of the cases.
FSF-free is not free, and not all open source projects are foolish enough to believe it is, nor narrow in their interpretation to the point of excluding the CC licenses. Subdiscussion over.
Just include the CC, AL2, PD options until somebody tries to register a model with another license.
I am complete horrible with computers in general. That said. Thsi is what i get. After i put in the name and code i used to register on the modelbase site.
