I've been thinking about this for a while now and it seems like a good idea, I don't know if it's been mentioned already but I'll try and keep it short and simple.

I think it would make sense to implement an email system when registering. This would mean when a new account is registered in the lobby, a player would have to enter his email too.

Why this would help

If no duplicate emails were allowed, this would lower the amount of smurfs being created as players would be hesitant to create a whole new email account just to smurf. This obviously wouldn't stop smurfs but would certainly lower the willingness to smurf.

You could update players of major Spring updates and new versions via Email.

If a player has forgot their password which happens to many players who haven't played in a while or haven't had to change accounts for while, a "I forgot my password system" could be implemented which would send the players password to their email.

Now unless anyone can think of any con's of having an email system, I see no reason why this should not be implemented.

All already discussed here: link

Conclusion from that thread: it's not going to happen.

I read the thread and I still don't understand why not?

It would be easy to ban all disposable e-mail services on that top 20 list (and any other that may be discovered).

There are hundreds of free email services that take about 2minutes to register.

a disposable mail service (gmail) is my main email account. i once tried to register in a place that didn't allow a disposable email and even when i mailed to a moderator explaining that i indeed am a human, he didn't allow me to create an account. it's pointless.

It's not even about stopping smurf accounts although it would likely lower the amount of duplicate accounts created. When at the current system a new account can be created within 15 seconds, players can create an instant account making for "big smurf community".
There are many players out there with 50+ smurfs.

Even if it did nothing to help stopping smurfs it would have its other benefits.

You think people are too lazy to spend extra 2 minutes creating a smurf when they intend to create one?

Only benefit would be password recovery.

Password recovery imo makes it worth it. Some notification system about server downtimes might be an advantage too.

I don't like having to give my e-mail away when registering.

Which is about 10 times as long as it takes currently, plus thetime for the email to arrive in order to be clicked on would take additional time. It wouldn't be "you're banned" <click new account> <enter name> <back>.

If someone was banned he wouldn't really care about spending extra minute.

An email verifications system would be better from all aspects.
I think the conclusion reached(if you inspect the arguments of pro and versus sides truthfully and also take into consideration that email verifications are uses in so many other lobbies, games and web services) in earlier discussions is that its a good idea but nobody wants to implement it.

Smurfs dont smurf just because of fun, they are bitter and angry about their past, they probably got beaten by another smurf when they were younger in Spring. Its like the classical example how dad beats up his kids, so the kid will beat up his kids when hes older.

They will do everything to smurf, no email account will stop them.

Plus, internet is full of fake email accounts which dont need registering...

Its kinda funny how one man started this "smurfing" and now its spreading like a disease... Reminds me of dad vs boy case, dad rapes boy, and boy rapes his boys when hes adult... etc, beats his boys or etc... Damn... smurfs are so mentally broken, we should give them therapy instead :(

let aside the smurf issue, password recovery would be a nice feature.

In conclusion, anyone who smurfs, is a rapist.
