So long as everything *ends up* as polies, you can model it anyway you like.

Yep. I model everything in NURBS in Rhino then (meticulously) mesh it.

I'm with Blender, but that's because I like to do more then just (low polygon) modelling. But I guess Wings is great for Spring.

Wings here.

I'll show some more interest in blender when there's more than only the current camera controls. They feel kind of clusmy and cumbersome, I just can't work fast. Fill me in if there are any alternatives and I'll give blender another go.

@Snipawolf
Yes but it's still intended to be rendered in real time by a graphics card.
You need Blender if you like to make a 3D animated video with realistic water for example.

it is posible to make the export script for blender? i found blender export script for supcom ... and how you can see it export complete textured model with animations and scripts.

big plus against upspring is that unit creation will be completely platform independent. I think this can help spring comunity a lot, because spring has no competitive free strategy on Linux.

and about blender and wings:
for now wings is little bit better in modeling, but working in blender is more comfortable (for me).

That Blender export thing is something we could use for Spring indeed, I guess he should be asked if he would like to work with us on adding Spring support.
