TA Style music
Hey,
I'm kinda new here, have been playing a lot l8ly and getting tons of people together at my college and having massive LAN parties in the CS labs here. Any way I was woundering if there was any talk of doing an in-game music system like TA.
Such that it would read an MP3 folder say, and play certain songs at certain times. Like build songs, then battle songs when you engage something.
I'm sure this has been brought up before but I wasn't around for it. Is that something that's at the bottom of a long todo list?
What are the current short term development goals btw?

Yes, this has been brought up lots of times before. Lots of times. Lots of epople thought it was a good idea. However, Im not sure if it has even made it onto thw to-do list.
As for the current development, I know of a few:
UV Wrapped models
LUA Map scripting/unit scriping
Bugfixes * 10000
Im sure there is more, but im not sure what those more things would be

Oh well atleast ur all nice about it unlike msot communities that flame the shit out of u for asking something liek this.
I'm thinking of doing an AI or something, I'm extreemly interested in this project, infact so much so it has almost totaly side lined my 3D engine which was in production. I just cant stop playing this crap. Any way awesome work guys! L8er.

If you can actually code it, please do! It'd stop these topics and add a nice feature to the game!Wavesonics wrote:I'm thinking of doing an AI or something, I'm extreemly interested in this project, infact so much so it has almost totaly side lined my 3D engine which was in production. If i could integrate an MP3 decoder/player into TA:S would they actualy includ e it? I mean an in game MP3 player would b the first step, then i'm sure it would be so easy to detect an attack and play from a list of tracks accordingly. Really I would be interested in doing this, would the TA:S team support this at all?

I suggest that coders make it so Spring works flawlessly, with full shadow, reflection, multi-format musci player, etc.. on all computer ever built, down to the ENIAC! Why does no one listen to my suggestion? Imagine how cool it would be to be able to play Spring on that old Z80 Spectrum or on your cellphone. It sure is the best suggestion so far!Alantai Firestar wrote:ahem, if anyone would take notice of my suggestion to allow multiple sound and rendering engines, we could have directx if we want or OpenGL etc
rofl. How about if we make Spring use ray-tracing too? Remember that?zwzsg wrote:I suggest that coders make it so Spring works flawlessly, with full shadow, reflection, multi-format musci player, etc.. on all computer ever built, down to the ENIAC! As a "Linux freak" I can say that for the Windows platform DirectX will still be used as the sound backend.Gnome wrote:Spring does use directsound already, afaik... though I'm sure the linux freaks will still say no to further DX usage
I'm not 100% sure as I'm not the one doing the porting.
The idea is to use OpenAL.

If I had the power to endeer people with awards of glory, you sir would have just won yourself one.zwzsg wrote:I suggest that coders make it so Spring works flawlessly, with full shadow, reflection, multi-format musci player, etc.. on all computer ever built, down to the ENIAC! ! I did not envisage people taking my suggestion to the ludicrous extremes as far back as pre-1995 systems =l.
My thought was if spring had multiple rendering engine capability then perhaps we wouldnt be limiting it to only playing ok on anythign better than 1Ghz, bringing it more into OTA's minimum requirements on some rendering engines.
But if you wanna play it on your BBC mastercomputer or your pocket calculators and electronic typewritters than go ahead, afterrall this ahs been doen in numerous other engines at least to the OpenGl or DirectX choice. But dont be ridiculous and suggest I'm asking for all these amazingly cpu/gpu itnensive features.
