Any ideas? Running OS X 10.6.6 with fresh installs of XCode, Java Developer, MacPorts, etc.
Doing my own troublehsooting, it appears this is due to the absence of Freetype. Using Porticus as a MacPorts front end I found that FreeType is not installed. I installed it and then went back to install springrts and it's sitting on the "building springrts" now. Never got this far. Will report back.
Well that certainly fixed it. I am now installing the lobbies. I launched Spring by typing spring into the terminal and the app launched. Hope this helps anyone who might have a similar issue!
So it seems that Spring is just the engine behind Zero-K, the game I want to try out. Seeing that there were Linux instructions for compiling from source but no OS X specific instructions I decided to try the Linux ones. So I typed in:

*shrugs* I'm not really sure. Try one, then the other.
Although I don't really understand why there is a spring folder inside that one game folder. In windows it's spring/games. I thought it was the same for linux.
But what do i know I only played spring on linux for a very short time and have zero hours with spring on mac.
I copied the folder and put it everywhere I could find both a spring and games folder. I launch Spring and no games show up when I click "test games" or "maps.

Well I don't really know. The only thing you can hope for is... downloading a game from one of the lobbies. and *hope* it puts it in the magical directory. Then search your hdd for that file. But really that's a long shot. Maybe try submitting a ticket on http://springrts.com/mantis/my_view_page.php or going into the lobby's IRC channel and bother people in #sy.

Uhh. I...don't...know. I'm starting to feel i'm doing more harm than good. I know the bridges address though. You can connect to spring's server via this bridge on any IRC client.
I appreciate any help. Right now I am filling up my hd by adding the game folder to numerous places. I can't get into the IRC server for some odd reason, either.
I guess the question is- how to install Zero-K in OS X. Is the Linux install instruction the right thing to use or is there another method or additional steps?
Howto detect spring's including dirs: * run spring and exit it * search for a "infolog.txt" on your filesystem * open it in a texteditor * it contains lines as "Using read-write data directory: /foo/bar/" * place your files there
PS: As you may have seen while reading all the tips how to build spring on OSX. It is in progress and not 100% working yet, esp. online playing is not possible atm.

I just launched and then exited Spring and searched the entire filesystem for 'infolog.txt'. It does not exist.
I am fine with single player play. Just want to play something like Total Annhilation. I loved that game.
