This has been on my mind for quite a while. How about a more advanced Skybox? One that supports multiple Suns (although just one lightsource, i m not that mad), nebulas, stars, asteroids, galaxys and moons.

Objects in the Sky can be put into two categorys:
Seemingly fixed: Moons, SpaceStations, Orbital Rings like dense Asteroidbelts

Moving: Nearby Asteroids, SpaceShips, Comets.. stuff..

So the Skybox is basically just a huge dome, were a texture is mapped upon, it would be possible to GlPUSH some textures upon it (before the clouds are compuated in) and keep track of those.

Actually not requesting from anyone to realise this, more like asking if any of the devs has anything against this..

Its nice, but i want something mappers can use. Sort of a drag and drop for alien skyboxxes. Two suns, three moons and a asteroid belt? No problemo...?

Okay, how do i lua some textures at random positions in the skybox, if im only rotating it very slowly? GL PUSH TEXTURE?

why i want it, if most of the time it is not visible? Because it simple to integrate into every map if well done, consist of nothing more then alpha blending and creates that instant feeling of foreigness.

I want a roadmap, how to approach this. With tutorials from the first texture push, to the how-will-abma-ever accept this into the spring-repo...

actually a book from cycles of fire - a book i hold dear. My dad brought it from a trip to cap caneveral, its the sort of thing that gets you dreamin. Just the panoramas.
And how they would influence a culture. Can you imagine the gods that get born, if a galaxy hangs in your sky as big as a moon?
