[SOLVED] No sound - separate X session - Ubuntu 9.04

I'm trying to run spring in a separate session of X, as per this guide that I wrote a while back:

However, with the most recent version of ubuntu, 9.04, I don't get any sound from the new X session. If I play spring in my main session it works fine. Anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong?

I needed to add my user name to /etc/group for audio:
