Ubuntu OTA Content Instructions

Post by inigmatus »

How does an Ubuntu user install OTA content?

http://spring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Ubuntu_i ... TA_Content currently gives the following instruction:
emerge spring-ota-content
This command does not work in Ubuntu. At all. I don't think "emerge" is an Ubuntu terminal command. Can someone post specific instructions and update the Ubuntu install guide with the proper OTA install info for this distro? Thanks!

Ubuntu users use may use current SpringLobby which will ask to automagically download OTA Content for you when run for the first time.

You could also manually download it from ipxserver.dyndns.org/games/spring/mods/xta/base-ota-content.zip

Why http://spring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Ubuntu_i ... TA_Content has emerge in it i don't know. Very few buntu users will have the gentoo packaging system installed alongside apt ;-)

The Ubuntu repo version of the lobby (.76b1) currently does not prompt you to download OTA, and instead gives you the cursor error when running games that use OTA content.

After downloading the OTA content, does one need to extract it, and if so where does one need to put the extracted OTA content?

Don't extract it, just put it in ~/.spring/base

Read it again, it's the UBUNTU guide, not the gentoo guide so it should be removed completely from it.

I know, I know. But the OTA section is a page of it's own that's embedded in all other sections, so it shows up for all distros. I don't know enough mediawiki-fu to make it realize what page is it being embedded on.

It would be best to make everything distro specific including stuff like that only created situations like this, confusing to users, it's not hard to re-write it, all you have to do is copy and paste then delete the emerge stuff.

Yeah and if you want to update it, you have to update every distro section.

With chances of that being close to nil or most people, I went with using one centralized thing :-)
