Over the recent months, autohosts have become increasingly popular. Spring now has over 50 autohosts. Of course this is a good thing and comes with many advantages but it also has a flaw. Some autohosts die frequently for no apparent reason and others just lag a lot.

Basically just list autohosts that are laggy, buggy or have some sort of fault here.

I'll update this first post when bad autohosts are listed.

  • [HST]autohost - Unplayabley Laggy - Crashes on !smurfs command
  • [SiC]Host - Unplayabley Laggy - Factions bug, can't recognize factions
  • autohosta - Unplayabley laggy
  • CowboyBOT - Experiences occasional connection spike - Host bans anyone on request
  • RZR Hosts - Accoring to a dodgy source they are a bit dodgy in terms of connection.

Some autohosts are hosting CA versions that are about 2,000 revisions old :?

Most hosts should disable !smurfs anyway, it isn't a useful tool without a server backing it, and it was never bug free.

People shouldn't run autohosts they can't maintain. This time last year I had sixteen running, sometimes up to ten at a time, with intermittent problems due to the crudity of the software, but I was on hand to maintain them. Without the time to maintain them, I no longer run them.

Not all, the EvoRTS autohost the bibim runs for us is great, and consequently is used for 99% of our games.

It's fine. I have no problem with the owners of the autohosts kicking, banning or doing what they like on their own host. They can be dicks and ban unfairly, but it's their host. They can do what they want.

if someone is smart enough to click 'Players' above players list, dead hosts are not any problem. Retarded owners and admins are bigger problem, like mentioned rzr or kos

This is a list of autohosts with specific problems. Maybe the topic title is a bit misleading.

Actually, people still use autohosts with problems because nobody has told them they don't work properly.

if they are playing first time, well, they will learn. i think smart ppl will join hosts with many ppl, if they are stubborn and want to play on laggy server... well, there is cure for stupidity yet

dead hosts are useful in the end
