Hello Spring community, here is the first map I have produced for Spring TA. It is an emulation of ''Seton's Clutch'' from Supreme Commander, probably one of the most popular maps. Since I couldn't find any reference to it on UF, I decided to work on it myself. The result is balanced and fun, and to scale, yet I have a problem and once I fix it I will upload it to the UF website.
The problem is that I cannot rename the map! I want to simply rename it to 'Seton's Clutch' yet whenever i change the name of the .smf , .smt or .smd, none of the textures load when I launch the map, how can I change the map name?

The name of the smt and smd are hard coded into the smf so until someone makes a map file "editor" you basically have to fully recompile the map to change the name.
Hm, I tested it out, and the only difference I can notice is that it is less conforming to the original. Well if you think that is more fun, who am I to judge.

No, only the texture (smt) is hardcoded in the map file (smf). You can rename the smd and smf just fine to change the name.
Didnt the origional have islands at the side, and at least some mountains?
I wont say its a bad idea or that nobody will play it- but the fact that there is already a map very similiar to this, well will make it difficult... but dont take the criticism too hard.
The problem with SSB, and one of the main reasons its fallen out of favour, is it is mostly an air or hover rush map. The middle bridge is practically inconsequential and most of the players on a team spend their resources on coming over the beaches.
Stop Butchering the guys work!!!If its a good map ill play it like hell. There are so many maps out there that making a totaly unique design is neary impossible. I think what your doing is great and i think your map will have a totaly unique feel to it.And do not listen to some of the people here.Your goal was to make Setons Clutch so do that and dont allow anyone to discourage you. Good job and keep em coming. If you want to make another supcom map after this please make a complete copy of that 1v1 map. We have a remake of it but its totaly different its called finns revenge, look it up im not sure thats the name of the map in supcom as well but once you see the spring version youl understand. Would be great to see it reproduced completly as it is including the size.

What i think may have been lost here is, were not saing it bad cause there's already a map like it. We were just pointing out there was so tha tyou knew...
Seeing as this is like the first map you have made for spring it looks really quite accomplished! And I cant wait to see what else you make.
Well what I don't like about many Supcom maps is that there rarely is some decent height on it and as things like hills are somewhat more important in Spring I'll still prefer Noize's version although not the big Supreme Battlefield map but rather the Small Supreme Battlefield V2 with underwater metal which is played pretty often and isn't so oversized when you just play a 4v4...

imo oversized=win. But i would say almost everyone disagrees with me on that regard. However, hills are important you are right. In addition, cliffs are just awesome.

Supreme battlefield was made based off screen shots of in supcom while it was still in development. That's why it deviates so much. We didn't know what the map was named yet, and we couldn't zoom in enough to study details, so noize just filled in the blanks however he felt like when he made it.
I fully encourage to you complete your map! It won't get the play time that noize's has, since small supreme has been one of the most popular maps for forever now. But still, you started a project and there will definitely be someone who appreciates it in the end! It's great to see people learning spring mapping one way or another.
