Test server

Post by Tobi »

In the 'what needs to be done before release' thread I think I mentioned more testing is needed, so I had a plan for a test server etc blahblahblah.

I just finished that.

There is a TASServer 0.34 hosting spring_0.75b2+svn5195 at buildbot.no-ip.org now, port 8200. You can only use it with that exact revision, and I will update it every week to a new revision.

I am forcing the revision to provide a testing environment where not much set up is needed: no need to communicate which revision is going to be used, since this server only accepts clients running this exact Spring revision.

A quick guide into getting online:It could be an idea to set official times for test games so you don't have to idle for hours in an empty server. So, what would be good times?

I'll start off by suggesting wednesday 20:00 UTC as a preferred time for a weekly test game. I'll try to be online at that time each week.

Cool. Just post this (with all vital links) in the news section, it's news after all.

I think it will help if you set up a single link to the latest testing version, as it may get confusing every week when you change revision, and people will not be sure which one it is.

Just connect to the server with a TASClient.exe from any recent test installer and it will update / downgrade you if you didn't grab the correct one.

(At least I'm assuming about the downgrade, I haven't tested that..)

EDIT: thinking about it, downgrading probably doesn't work.
I put the link to the full installer to get up 'n running in the original post.

Lol, I wish it were that simple: I have to compile it myself (linux) and even then I don't have a suitable lobby (yet!). Although that's a good thing as it's exam time and I would get addicted... again...

The linux lobbies dont check springs version yet so they wouldnt be able to use the update/downgrade system yet.

Update to revision 3808

I suggest wednesday 20:00 UTC as "weekly test game time". I updated the original post to reflect that.

So if you read this, have time on wednesday, and feel like doing some alpha testing, please connect to this server and have a game or two :P

I posted the latest SVN version of IceUI today and since it only works with the SVN builds of Spring, it would be pretty cool if some of you could add it to your test installation and give some feedback.. :D

I will now host on the osrts.info server for any of the devs that want to play when i'm hosting :)

Hopefully testing will get a slight jump / boost.

??? Don't think so; as long as you have the right SVN compiled on your linux box, it should be fine.... otherwise I may have to use my other pc...

Only the automatic updates are windows only, since we don't have a way yet to do platform dependent updates. Personally I usually test on Linux with TASClient.exe in wine and a Linux native compiled spring binary running in gdb.

I connected with aflobby, but I wasn't able to open any channels. Battle and players lists were working fine though.

The test server wont let ppl with 0.74b3 conenct, it insists on you using an svn build previously used to test.
