Is there a way to disable the new sound feature introduced in 0.84? It is broken for linux.

I have a fedora 16 64bit machine with a Creative audigy 2 card, and the new sound system makes the game extremely choppy even though the reported FPS is 60. On the same machine 0.82 used to get 140 FPS.
