PlanetWars 13 Reboot

Post by Google_Frog »

Zero-K is running another PlanetWars. This one has a matchmaking system to organize 2v2s between factions. Planet invasions are sent to the other faction as challenges which must be responded to within 10 minutes. I hope this will encourage some people to leave the massive 8v8 rooms.

The way that these matches are set up is potentially interesting for developers. The ordinary battleroom system is mostly replaced with lobby or web based signup buttons. Two players say that they want to play a game, this tells players from the other faction that there is a defense game for them to play. Once two defeneders sign up Nightwatch moves the players into a room and starts the game. With ZKL (but not the web based UI) we eliminate waiting for downloads by enabling the "join match" button only if you have the map. I hope that this is extended to create an ordinary matchmaking system.

The ZK site release thread is here -> http://zero-k.info/Forum/Thread/9652

Does tasc even have multi-engine support? Anyway, if your lobby is able to play normal ZK games then it can be used for PW because there is a web UI for the matchmaker. If your lobby does not respond to Nightwatch moves then you could at least find the right host and join it yourself.
