Hi there, I have been playing Spring for a long time. Mainly BA but I have also given all the other mods a try like NOTA, XTA, Star wars, CS etc but all the time I always saw CA as another crappy rip-off mod which is just like BA but with different models and a few tiny changes (which is sort of was at first) and I gave it a half-assed try plenty of times but got attacked by bugs, ugly GUIs, annoying widgets and just instantly quit and eventually I basically decided never to bother with it again

About a month ago I was sitting in lobby deciding which 8v8 dsd host I should join and my boredom level was over 9000 so I decided to join the ZK game out of sheer boredom. Once ingame, widget problem had been almost fixed but there was a few widgets that just needed immediately disabling (chilli chat bubbles >_>) but the point is, the actual game was just so epic that I feel like an absolute idiot for having continued to play that piece of crap known as 8V8BADSD for so damn long (or just BA in general)

This is a message to all you BA fan-girls out there who probably have the wrong idea about ZK in your head. It is not CA, there is a reason it renamed, it is a whole new game now. The development team of ZK is amazing, you can see by being in #zk channel just how much work they get done because RevisionNinja announces every change they make. The game has it's own beautiful lobby called ZK Lobby (TASclient is still better :P), it has a great website which features the whole Planetwars aspect of the game which is just yet another truckload of fun dumped ontop of the game

I would say it has a lot more potential than mods like BA because it is way more newb friendly, the graphics are much better and up to date. Better gameplay; just more fun :-) and I think it has ridden itself of all those OTA copyright problems by now.. but mainly it is because it remains to have an active and good development team whereas that stale old turd known as BA does not

Also: Customizable coms, terraforming, gravity turrets, 'jump' ability, capturing, comnapping :), flame weapons, slow weapons, morphing, planetwars, much better economy system, shield linking, melee units, amazing animations (see the nuke, it's epic)

I think it is about time, as a community we come to our senses and depart the old BA sailboat and board the big, shiny, modern ZK cruiser

Find out what you've been missing out on...
Go Here: http://zero-k.info/, weep tears of joy when you play

and I didn't even mention it has a good, functioning balance system based on elo (actual player skill) and this comes with an epic ladder system

I'm the same. I've tried CA/ZK a few times over the years and kept returning to BA. However, I still haven't found that spark of light that you seem to have found as ZK is still pretty buggy for me. Seems to freeze every few seconds for some reason. Oh and also no IceUI so meh.

Not to mention the direct download on the site doesn't seem to be updated very quickly. I end up having to download ZK lobby just to download ZK so I can use TASClient.

ZK is certainly making rapid progress and I'm sure I'll get dragged into it eventually, but for now, BA is still my home.

Hi, thought i'd compress your opinions so ba fan girls can read it with their small attention spans. Currently printing off your message getting ready to send to community elders.

you do not need ZKLobby to get latest ZK version, just use rapid-gui.exe, which comes with the spring installer.

also someone really needs to make a good showcase video for ZK because right now there is no good ZK videos at all, I couldn't even find one to show the epic nuke animation

I would definitely do it if I had the tools but my PC can't run it on good settings + fraps without seriously bad fps

Jaz, you should do it :) I know you got an epic PC

the tasclient downloader works great for me, it seems to almost instantly download any new mods or maps so I don't need to worry about that stuff at all

Definitely something buggy there. Its sounds like what people experience when their graphics cards don't have enough memory for all the textures, in which case compressing textures solves the problem, but you only need 256 MB to run normally.

Are you trying to run with MT version?

Actually I am aware nothing really works with MT properly apart from BA and I adjust as such ;)

yeah we keep raging at dev ppl to get MT sorted but it seems the only person who can even do anything in this area is Zerver and apparently he only gives a crap about BA, he needs to read this thread tbh :)

lulz, you don't know enough about anything here to make that sort of assertion about any of the devs. Don't say crap like that please.

also RE: ca video: ca changes so frequently that any videos are quicky dated.

I'd give you a verbal lashing about the dev thing but I have to leave soon.

I wouldn't care anyway

why don't you go ahead and make a nice functioning MT spring instead of working on that garbage you call GundamRTS HMM?

be a giver not a taker. do a bit of contributing for once Smoth

Im kinda with jazcash here, havent find that spark of ligth yet, but things are certainly better. Even now and then, i play ZK and have fun while doing it so i guess its an improvement.

On a personal note i prefered the early 1-faction fork, these days things change at a pace that i dont feel interested in looking trou all the changes, as my regular old strategy of playing RTS works all the time ;P.

Its a mater of preference, i enjoy more focused gameplay (more diferences between units).

But Zk is getting better so feel free to ignore this section of my post.

In comparison to Chilli? All the buildings are displayed together so I don't have to go searching through pages for stuff.

The widget list is much easier to use, you can see all the widgets at once without having to scroll up and down a long list looking for stuff.

It supports easily adjustable transparency. I have mine on 100% transparent. No textures or background at all. The text is a lot nicer and elements can be moved around to the exact pixel position you want them in instead of having them lock to the edge of the screen or other elements or w/e it is that Chilli does.

There's more options for chat and it's just nicer than Chilli chat.

Maybe it's just cause I've grown up with IceUI and I'm so used to it now that anything else seems uninviting.
