.. to show how is it playing on a 30" highres display - they are cheap now.. u can get one at ~ 1k€ but i got mine years ago for 1,7k€ (DELL 3007WFP) but u need a good GFX (im on a GTX 680)

I agree these screens are nice for RTS, I've had two of them for more than 5 years.

The DVI cable can't manage much more than 2560x1600. There are various vendor-specific hacks that allows higher res using either double cables or reduced refresh rate. The latter is pretty useless for gaming of course.

Most decent vid cards have an hdmi out, fwiw.

As of some arbitrary and recent date. I can still run Spring - and nearly all games - on my 8800GT or my 275GTX, neither of which have HDMI out.

Those cards max resolution tops out at 1920x1200 iirc, so your point is moot.

The point was to use HDMI in order to carry highest resolution possible.
