Re: Laptop Recommendations
Jaz, SSDs are not worth it in your situation... you can get much better hardware performance if you prefer to take HDD + system spec upgrades. It will also allow you to get a "boost" later on, if you start feeling that your laptop is getting older. If instead you opt out for SSD, you end u...

Re: Protection against cheaters
guys, there are easy enough ways to see whole map without having any specs ingame, so I would not worry about specs. oh? Yep, the whole data is synced on your machine, all it takes is changing code to display those units, instead of hiding them. (since all players process the whole gamefield at the...

Its just Forb with his regular fanboigasm of something everyone has known already, with exception of selected few.
Move on, nothing to see here.

Re: Protection against cheaters
actually, it should be reasonably easy to cut out ~50% of the speccheats currently, by simply dropping any spec who has the same IP addr as one of the players. This will not stop proxies, of course, but I am sure that not every speccheat knows where to get a reasonable proxy, which will not lag out ...

Re: Spring have less players
I think the problem is the community being conservative... The simple example of people complaining about 8v8 DSD games, Senna's quite popular (for a while) ba hackmap, and other changes which resulted to be quite successful amongst the players. Which is why I would argument, that the community has ...

Re: Balanced Annihilation 7.50
This feels like what they do in politics. We want these and these changes. Obviously noone will agree with us, so lets modify even more, to the absurd extent and release it. Get shouted at by the community. Revert the absurd changes which were never meant to be there anyway. And everyone goes "...

Re: 7.4X Balance Change Reasoning
The appeal that BA has to me, is effectively constant gameplay. I can come to it at any point of the year, and play it, expecting the gameplay to be essentially the same, with a few tweaks to the damage/health numbers. If BA takes the same route as NOTA/XTA/SA/etc. then I might as well play those mo...

Re: 7.4X Balance Change Reasoning
It honestly feels like the mod we had around made by Nixa (BBA? ABA? whatever it was called) is now being forced onto the BA players since FA couldnt find anyone more conservative to replace him... Wasnt it that BA was effectively done as-is, and the main attraction that nothing changes? (with a few...
Re: NOTA 1.66
Draven, why are you so butthurt about something rarely used anyway? (at least from your wods)... Bombers _are_ used. Especially on larger maps. Issue with Bomber VS Flak standoff, is that there is a critical amount of flak, beyond which no bomber will pass through. So it doesnt matter how much damag...
Re: NOTA 1.66
10 bombers is mid-game... try 3 bombers and equivalent flak in metal. Then fly those bombers around the range of the flak, and drop bombs on something else valuable. If you are in 2v2, a single player can have 3 bombers, but both players will have to get the flak... Or a single player can get fighte...
Re: NOTA 1.66
Draven, although I understand your conservatism (heh, I am not extremely happy with air being nerfed either). I have to say that an early 2-3 strats, instead of ground attack planes can be devastating to the opponent's economy, or factories. And you have to have concentrated 8 flak battery, meaning ...
Re: NOTA 1.66
try to use strat bombers early on to bomb geothermals/fusions... you only need 3-4 of them +1 per 2 flaks up to 8 flaks.
Without getting early flak/fighters, and a lot of them, the only other option is to spam solars/wind.

Re: 14.5 Hour night shifts, portable entertainment suggestions
I strongly suggest getting something android-based. A good alternative, if you are into computers, is to start developing for android platform, I recently did, when I was on vacation for 3 weeks, and had nothing better to do than play some online RPG. It took about 2 hours to set up SDK/eclipse/envi...

It surprises me just how many misconceptions, misunderstandings, and obvious profanity exists around nuclear physics/reactors, even in this thread.

Re: MINECRAFT IS NOW BETA!
There is a "minetest" clone available, which, imo, gets closest to what minecraft is, with an exception of quite a few missing features. It also runs MILES faster : http://celeron.55.lt/~celeron55/minetest/

I use EMPMs to slow down eco farms on dsd... Works quite well, especially if you get 3-4 of them, can keep 6-7 advfuses stalled for a long amounts of time.

Afaik Tobi does Java too and he is not a capitalistic pig :) And 1% is not from my head hoijui - wiki says 1% of PC users use Linux. I know that in Spring community its much more. 50% of the Windows users are home wifes who will _never_ even look at your game. Using wiki values for your argument of...

Re: Future Planetwars Windows only
I wonder what percentage of spring players are using linux (last time I heard the numbers it was ~30%). Recalling all of the .net experience and the "get the mono" I am not surprised that you only got 2 players from linux for you already small playerbase. From my experience, any serious OS...
